LIRS Extends Tax Return Filing Deadline to April 14, 2026
The Lagos State Internal Revenue Service (LIRS) has extended the deadline for filing individual annual income tax returns to April 14, 2026, giving taxpayers an additional two weeks to comply with statutory requirements.
The Lagos State Internal Revenue Service announced the extension on Monday, shifting the original deadline from April 1 to April 14, 2026.
According to the Executive Chairman of LIRS, Ayodele Subair, the statutory deadline for filing individual annual tax returns remains March 31 each year. He explained that the extension is aimed at providing taxpayers with extra time to complete and submit accurate returns.
Subair emphasised the importance of timely compliance, urging individuals to prioritise the filing of their annual income tax returns and adopt it as a routine civic responsibility.
He further reiterated that electronic filing via the LIRS eTax platform is now the only approved method for submission, noting that manual filing has been completely phased out.
“The eTax platform is secure, user-friendly, and accessible 24/7, enabling taxpayers to conveniently meet their obligations,” he said, advising individuals to ensure that their Tax Identification Number (TaxID) is correctly captured during submission.
The agency also encouraged taxpayers seeking assistance to visit any LIRS office or reach out through its official communication channels, including its website, social media platforms, email support, and customer care hotline.
The extension is expected to ease compliance pressures while improving the accuracy and completeness of tax filings across Lagos.
