NAOSNP Congratulates CP Tijani Fatai on Appointment as Lagos Police Commissioner

The National Association of Online Security News Publishers (NAOSNP) has congratulated the newly appointed Commissioner of Police for Lagos State Command, Tijani Fatai, on his appointment and assumption of office, describing him as a seasoned officer well-suited for the role.

In a statement issued by its National Public Relations Officer, Eric Elezuo, the association said Fatai’s appointment reflects a “round peg in a round hole,” citing his extensive experience, intelligence, and track record in policing.

The association noted that as a body of security-focused journalists and publishers committed to objective reporting, it is confident in the new police chief’s capacity to enhance security and safety across Lagos State.

“We felicitate with CP Tijani Fatai on his appointment and resumption of office as the Lagos State Commissioner of Police. His wealth of experience and professionalism position him to positively transform policing and improve officers’ welfare,” the statement read.

NAOSNP also pledged its continued collaboration with the Lagos State Police Command under Fatai’s leadership, expressing optimism that his tenure would usher in improved security outcomes.

National President of the association, Oki O. Samson, further described Fatai as a man of integrity and attention to detail, noting that Lagos stands to benefit from his expertise.

“Lagos State is fortunate to have CP Tijani Fatai at this time. He will deploy his experience and intelligence to ensure the state remains secure and safe,” Samson said.

Fatai assumes office as the 42nd Commissioner of Police in Lagos State, succeeding Olohundare Jimoh, who has been redeployed to Zone 2 Command as an Assistant Inspector-General of Police.

A native of Agege in Lagos State, Fatai attended Anwar-ul-Islam College, Agege, before obtaining a Bachelor of Arts degree in Philosophy from Olabisi Onabanjo University, Ago-Iwoye, Ogun State.

He joined the Nigeria Police Force as a Cadet Assistant Superintendent of Police on June 10, 1994, and has since held several strategic positions, including Commissioner of Police, Eastern Port in Port Harcourt; Deputy Commissioner of Police, Department of Operations at the Force Headquarters Annex, Lagos; and Area Commander in multiple locations across Ogun, Borno, and Lagos states.

His career also includes roles as Officer-in-Charge of the Homicide Section at the State Criminal Investigation Department (SCID), Lagos, and Divisional Police Officer in various divisions.

Fatai is a member of the International Association of Chiefs of Police, and his appointment is widely seen as a strategic move to strengthen policing and security management in Lagos State.
