LSSTF CEO Ogunsan Charges New Lagos CP Tijani Fatai to Strengthen Security Architecture

The Executive Secretary/Chief Executive Officer of the Lagos State Security Trust Fund, Ayodele Ogunsan, has welcomed the newly appointed Commissioner of Police for Lagos State Command, Tijani Fatai, urging him to enhance security operations across the state.

Ogunsan gave the charge during the official handover ceremony at the Lagos State Police Command, describing Fatai’s appointment as strategic and timely, particularly given Lagos’ status as Nigeria’s commercial nerve centre and a major economic hub in West Africa.

According to him, the complex security landscape of Lagos requires proactive, intelligence-driven, and community-oriented policing, adding that the new police chief is well-positioned to build on existing security frameworks.

“Lagos State has already set a benchmark in security, and you are familiar with this from your previous roles within the system. Expectations are high, and the government and people of Lagos expect you to further enhance policing standards in line with global best practices. You must step up the game,” Ogunsan stated.

He assured the Commissioner of the LSSTF’s continued support, emphasizing the agency’s commitment to providing logistics, operational assistance, and capacity-building programmes for security agencies. He noted that sustained collaboration among stakeholders remains critical to tackling crime and ensuring public safety.

Ogunsan also paid tribute to the immediate past Commissioner of Police, Olohundare Jimoh, who has been promoted and redeployed as Assistant Inspector-General of Police in charge of Zone 2. He commended Jimoh’s contributions to strengthening security operations in Lagos, particularly initiatives such as the Eko Strike Force and ongoing infrastructure development at the Command Conference Centre.

The ceremony was attended by members of the police management team, including Deputy Commissioners of Police and Assistant Commissioners, alongside Area Commanders, Tactical Commanders, Divisional Police Officers, and associates of the new Commissioner.

CP Fatai, who enlisted in the Nigeria Police Force as a Cadet Assistant Superintendent of Police on June 10, 1994, has held several key positions across the country. His previous roles include Commissioner of Police, Eastern Port in Port Harcourt; Deputy Commissioner of Police, Department of Operations, Force Headquarters Annex, Lagos; and Area Commander in various formations in Ogun, Borno, and Lagos states.

He also served as Officer-in-Charge of the Homicide Section at the State Criminal Investigation Department (SCID), Lagos, and as Divisional Police Officer in multiple divisions. He is a member of the International Association of Chiefs of Police.

His extensive experience and track record in law enforcement are widely seen as positioning him to effectively lead the Lagos State Police Command and sustain ongoing efforts to maintain security and public order.
