Ondo State Police Command Defends Idanre Arrest, Orders Probe Into Alleged Miracle Scam Case

The Ondo State Police Command has defended the arrest of six suspected fraudsters in Idanre, dismissing allegations of misconduct while reaffirming its zero-tolerance stance on corruption within the force.

The Ondo State Police Command has responded to allegations circulating in a report published by Sahara Reporters on March 2, 2026, regarding the arrest of six suspects over an alleged miracle scam in Idanre.

In a press statement issued by the Police Public Relations Officer, Abayomi Jimoh, the command said the operation was carried out strictly in accordance with due process and established criminal investigation procedures.

According to the statement, the suspects voluntarily made confessional statements in both written and video-recorded formats, admitting their alleged involvement in the offence. The police added that the statements were obtained in line with existing legal provisions and would form part of the evidence in the prosecution process.

The command also disclosed that it had ordered a thorough and impartial investigation into the allegations raised in the report to determine the facts surrounding the case.

“The investigation will be comprehensive and independent, in line with the command’s commitment to accountability and professionalism,” the statement said.

The Commissioner of Police in the state, Adebowale Lawal, was quoted as stating that he has never directed anyone to collect money on his behalf for any purpose, describing such conduct as contrary to the ethical standards of the Nigeria Police Force.

He reiterated the command’s firm stance against corruption and misconduct, assuring members of the public that any officer or individual found culpable after the investigation would face appropriate disciplinary action in line with the law.

The police command further called on individuals with relevant information or evidence related to the allegations to come forward to support the ongoing investigation.

It added that the command remains committed to community-centred policing and the protection of lives and property across Ondo State while working to maintain public trust and security.
