Police Week 2026: FCID Alagbon Stages Walkathon to Boost Fitness, Public Confidence in Lagos

The Force Criminal Investigation Department (FCID) Annex, Alagbon Close, on Tuesday held a two-hour walkathon as part of activities marking Day 2 of National Police Week 2026, aimed at promoting physical fitness, strengthening community engagement, and enhancing public confidence in the Nigeria Police Force.

The exercise, themed “Together We Walk, Together We Secure,” commenced from the FCID Annex headquarters and moved through the Kam Salem House / Force Headquarters Annex axis, covering adjoining routes before returning to the take-off point.

The walkathon was led by the Assistant Inspector-General of Police in charge of FCID Annex Lagos, Simeon Udo Akpanudom, alongside senior officers and personnel of the department.

The procession featured a vibrant police band providing music, while medical teams, pilot vehicles, and backup units ensured safety throughout the exercise. Adequate security was also maintained, with members of the media present to monitor the event.

During the walk, officers engaged directly with residents and journalists, reinforcing the commitment of the Nigeria Police Force to community partnership and proactive policing.

Speaking at the event, AIG Akpanudom reiterated the command’s alignment with the vision of the Inspector-General of Police, Olatunji Rilwan Disu, particularly in advancing the 2026 Police Week theme, “Community Partnership: Building Trust.”

He noted that the initiative underscores the importance of collaboration between the police and the public in maintaining security and fostering peaceful coexistence.

“The Nigeria Police Force remains committed to strengthening its relationship with the public. We encourage citizens to support law enforcement with timely and credible information, as this is critical to effective policing,” he said.

The AIG further highlighted that the walkathon provided an avenue for officers to demonstrate their physical readiness and operational fitness, essential for the discharge of their duties. He confirmed that the exercise was successfully conducted without any casualties.

Police Week is an annual programme designed to showcase the role of the Force in national security while promoting accountability, professionalism, and stronger ties with the communities it serves.
