Fresh controversy has erupted in Ibadan following allegations that Yoruba Nation activist Sunday Igboho , popularly known as Sunday Igboho, has been leading groups of supporters to disrupt activities at several real estate development sites across the city, while allegedly claiming the backing of the Olubadan of Ibadan, Rashidi Adewolu Ladoja.

Barely weeks after his return to Nigeria following a presidential pardon, Yoruba Nation activist Sunday Adeyemo , widely known as Sunday Igboho, has been accused of disrupting operations at construction sites belonging to real estate firms in Ibadan, Oyo State.

According to sources within the real estate sector, Igboho and a convoy of supporters reportedly visited several project locations in the city, halting construction activities and demanding settlements from developers before work could continue. One of the latest incidents allegedly occurred on Monday when a group led by Igboho stormed a construction site belonging to a prominent real estate company, forcing workers to suspend operations.

Eyewitnesses said the presence of the group caused panic among staff and construction workers, many of whom reportedly left the premises for safety. The activist was also alleged to have issued warnings to the company, insisting that the developers must reach an agreement with him before resuming work at the site.

The development has raised concerns within Ibadan’s business community, particularly after reports that Igboho claimed to be acting with the backing of the Olubadan of Ibadan, Rashidi Adewolu Ladoja. Witnesses said he repeatedly referenced the monarch while addressing those present during the incident, allegedly stating that no one could challenge him in Ibadan.

The claims have sparked debate among stakeholders, with some observers urging the palace to clarify its position and ensure that the name of the revered traditional institution is not used to intimidate investors or businesses.

In response to the incident, the affected real estate company has reportedly engaged the law firm of to pursue legal action. The company is also said to be preparing petitions to relevant authorities, including the office of the Inspector-General of Police and the Oyo State Government, seeking protection for its staff and projects.

Legal practitioners familiar with the matter say the company intends to obtain a court order restraining further interference with its operations, arguing that businesses should not be subjected to intimidation or disruption.

The controversy comes amid renewed public attention on Igboho, who previously rose to prominence during campaigns against insecurity in parts of the South-West. His residence in Ibadan was raided in July 2021 during a security operation linked to the agitation for a Yoruba nation.

As petitions over the latest allegations begin to circulate among government and security agencies, business operators and community leaders in Ibadan are closely watching developments, calling for swift intervention to ensure that lawful business activities in the city are protected.
