Airport Police Arrest Ex-IT Firm Employee Over ₦15 Million Equipment Theft in Lagos

The Airport Police Command in Lagos has arrested a 28-year-old former employee of Vovida Communications Limited for allegedly stealing high-value equipment worth over ₦15 million from the company’s premises near the Murtala Muhammed International Airport.

The suspect, identified as George Ikpe, was apprehended on April 3, 2026, by operatives of the airport police division following what authorities described as a diligent intelligence-led investigation.

According to police findings, Ikpe allegedly gained unauthorized access to the IT firm’s facility along the airport axis and carted away critical equipment. A review of CCTV footage from the company reportedly captured his movements, helping investigators confirm his identity.

Stolen items include two custom-made central processing units (CPUs) valued at ₦10.357 million and a high-end printer worth ₦4.715 million, bringing the total estimated loss to ₦15.072 million.

Police authorities disclosed that the stolen CPUs have been recovered after the suspect reportedly led investigators to their location. However, the printer had already been sold before his arrest.

During interrogation, the suspect allegedly confessed to committing the crime as an act of revenge following the termination of his employment with the company.

Reacting to the development, the Commissioner of Police, Airport Command, Ogunbode Olufunke, reiterated the command’s commitment to combating crime within the airport environment and its surroundings.

She stated that the suspect would be charged in court upon the conclusion of investigations and urged members of the public to promptly report suspicious activities to security agencies.

The Airport Police Command reaffirmed its resolve to ensure the safety of lives and property while maintaining a secure, crime-free airport corridor.
