Babajide Olusola Sanwo-Olu Receives New Lagos CP Fatai Tijani, Emphasises Strengthened Security Collaboration
LAGOS — Babajide Olusola Sanwo-Olu on Tuesday received the newly appointed Commissioner of Police, Fatai Tijani, at the Lagos House, reaffirming the state government’s commitment to bolstering security through strategic partnerships and innovation.
The courtesy visit marks CP Tijani’s first official engagement with the Governor since assuming office as the 42nd Commissioner of Police in Lagos State. He was accompanied by the Executive Secretary/Chief Executive Officer of the Lagos State Security Trust Fund (LSSTF), Ayo Ogunsan.
Welcoming the new police chief, Governor Sanwo-Olu commended Tijani’s professional background and expressed confidence in his ability to sustain and enhance the state’s security architecture. He reiterated his administration’s continued support for security agencies, stressing that Lagos would remain committed to investing in modern security solutions and strengthening institutional collaborations.
In his remarks, CP Tijani outlined his policing agenda, which centres on intelligence-driven operations, community policing, and the deployment of technology to address evolving security challenges. He underscored the importance of synergy among the government, law enforcement agencies, private sector stakeholders, and residents in maintaining Lagos’ reputation as a secure and investment-friendly environment.
Also speaking, Dr. Ogunsan highlighted the pivotal role of the LSSTF in supporting security initiatives across the state. He assured the Commissioner of sustained institutional backing and emphasised the need for effective collaboration to translate security strategies into tangible outcomes.
The meeting signals a renewed alignment between the Lagos State Government and the police command, aimed at deepening coordination and enhancing public safety across the state.
CP Tijani, a native of Agege Local Government Area of Lagos State, attended Anwar-ul-Islam College, Agege, and holds a Bachelor of Arts degree in Philosophy from Olabisi Onabanjo University. He joined the Nigeria Police Force as a Cadet Assistant Superintendent of Police in 1994 and has held several strategic positions, including Commissioner of Police, Eastern Port, Port Harcourt, and Deputy Commissioner of Police in charge of Operations at the Force Headquarters Annex, Lagos.
A seasoned officer with extensive operational and administrative experience, Tijani is also a member of the International Association of Chiefs of Police, reflecting his global professional engagement in law enforcement.
