Badagry Women Intensify Call for Lagos Governorship Zoning, Urge Bola Ahmed Tinubu to Act

Women from the Badagry Federation have renewed their demand for the zoning of the Lagos State governorship to their division, describing the call as a legitimate quest for equity, fairness, and historical justice, while urging President Bola Ahmed Tinubu to support the move.

A coalition of women in Badagry has intensified advocacy for the zoning of the Lagos State governorship seat to the division, insisting that the region deserves a fair shot at producing the state’s next governor.

The women, who gathered to press home their demand, described Badagry as a critical gateway to West Africa with deep historical and cultural significance, stressing that its contributions to the growth of Lagos State cannot continue to be overlooked in the state’s political power structure.

They maintained that their agitation is not a protest but a legitimate and peaceful call for justice and inclusion, noting that Badagry has never produced a governor since the creation of Lagos State.

Speaking during the engagement, participants including Anita Seneyon Abdul and Mrs. Funmilayo Agbaje called on President Bola Ahmed Tinubu to ensure that the governorship seat is zoned to Badagry in the interest of fairness and balance.

According to them, the demand reflects the collective aspiration of the people of Badagry division, particularly women, who believe the time has come for the region to occupy the state’s highest political office.

They also raised concerns over what they described as the misrepresentation of Badagry by individuals who allegedly claim affiliation with the division for political gain despite lacking genuine roots in the community.

The women stressed that true representation must be based on identity, commitment, and a clear understanding of the people’s needs, rather than opportunistic affiliations.

“As women of Badagry, we are not here to protest but to make a sincere and justified appeal. This is a genuine call rooted in fairness and historical reality,” one of the participants stated, while commending the unity and resolve displayed at the gathering.

The coalition further reiterated its support for credible leadership, highlighting the contributions of Samuel Mawuyon Ajose to grassroots mobilisation, party development, and electoral processes across the state.

They noted that leaders who have demonstrated consistent commitment and investment in the growth of the state and their communities should be prioritised in the quest for governorship.

The group also appealed to stakeholders within the All Progressives Congress and across Lagos to embrace equity by supporting the zoning of the governorship seat to Badagry.

Prayers were offered for divine guidance and success of the agitation, with participants expressing optimism that their demand would receive favourable consideration.

Reaffirming their position, the women declared that Badagry has remained loyal, contributed significantly to the political landscape of Lagos, and is fully prepared to lead.

“Badagry is ready,” they concluded.
