CNN African Voices Spotlights Rising Multidisciplinary Artist Ejatu Shaw

London-based photographer and multidisciplinary artist Ejatu Shaw is set to feature as the special guest on this week’s edition of African Voices, the flagship magazine show on CNN sponsored by telecoms giant Globacom.

The 30-year-old British-Sierra Leonean creative has rapidly emerged as a prominent voice in global art and fashion. Her artistic journey began in 2013 during a pivotal visit to Sierra Leone, shaping the identity-driven themes that define her work today. Shaw later honed her craft at the University of Westminster, where she earned a Master’s degree in Photography Arts in 2020.

Shaw’s work is deeply introspective, blending elements of her Islamic faith with her African heritage. Drawing inspiration from renowned mid-century African photographers such as Malick Sidibé, Sory Sanlé, and Omar Yahia Barram, she creates striking visual narratives through self-portraiture and culturally rich projects.

Her rising profile was further cemented in 2025 when the British Fashion Council named her a “New Wave Creative.” Within the same year, she delivered high-profile works including photography for EBONY featuring Angela Bassett, editorials for major publications such as The Guardian, The Sunday Times, and Vogue with Cynthia Erivo. She also executed campaign projects for Puma featuring Usain Bolt and designed album artwork for Craig David.

The programme will air on Saturday at 7:30 a.m. and 11:00 a.m., with repeat broadcasts scheduled for Sunday at 3:30 a.m. and 6:00 p.m., and Monday at 3:00 a.m. and 5:45 p.m.
