FG Partners China to Deploy Modular Technology for Affordable Housing Delivery

The Federal Government has intensified efforts to tackle Nigeria’s housing deficit through a strategic partnership with China focused on deploying innovative, technology-driven housing solutions at scale.

This move follows a high-level technical study tour to Guangzhou, led by Joseph Tegbe, Director-General and Global Liaison of the Nigeria-China Strategic Partnership, alongside a delegation from Family Homes Funds Limited. The delegation included Managing Director Abdul Mutallab Mukhtar and Executive Director of Operations Emeka Henry Inegbu.

The engagement centred on forging partnerships to integrate modular and prefabricated housing technologies into Nigeria’s construction sector. The approach is expected to significantly cut building costs, accelerate project timelines, and enhance quality delivery across large-scale housing developments.

With Nigeria’s housing deficit estimated in the millions, the Federal Government is prioritising industrialised construction methods and international collaboration as key drivers for sustainable and inclusive housing delivery. Discussions during the visit also explored potential alliances with engineering, procurement, and construction (EPC) firms to boost execution capacity for mass housing projects.

In addition, the delegation engaged prospective financing partners to mobilise long-term capital required to fund affordable housing schemes and improve access for low- and middle-income earners.

The meetings were facilitated by Joerno Conceptions Limited and the E-Link Group in China, with support from Zou Gang, Executive Deputy Director of the China-Africa Economic and Trade Enterprises Working Committee, highlighting the depth of institutional backing for the initiative.

The partnership signals a shift toward results-driven bilateral cooperation, combining technical expertise, capital mobilisation, and policy alignment to deliver measurable outcomes. By leveraging China’s advanced construction capabilities, the initiative is expected to expand access to affordable housing, stimulate job creation, strengthen local value chains, and improve urban resilience.

The development also reinforces broader Nigeria–China collaboration across critical sectors, with housing identified as a key pillar under President Bola Ahmed Tinubu’s Renewed Hope Agenda.
