Lagos Announces Road Closures Ahead of 2026 Fanti Carnival

The Lagos State Government has announced a series of temporary road closures across key parts of the Island in preparation for the 2026 Fanti Carnival scheduled to hold on Monday, April 6, urging residents and motorists to plan ahead and utilize designated alternative routes.

The Lagos State Government, through the Ministry of Tourism, Arts and Culture, has unveiled traffic diversion plans ahead of the highly anticipated Lagos Fanti Carnival, with several major roads set to be closed from 7:00 a.m. on the day of the event.

According to the government, the affected routes include King George V Road at the Mobil Filling Station junction, Onikan Roundabout inbound to TBS, Flagstaff House inbound to TBS, Outer Marina by State House inbound to TBS, Campbell Street by the Old Defence Building, and Catholic Mission Street near St. Nicholas Hospital.

To ease traffic flow and minimize disruptions, the Lagos State Traffic Management Authority has outlined alternative routes for motorists. Vehicles approaching from Obalende towards Onikan Roundabout will be redirected to Zone 2, while those coming from Bonny Camp towards McEwen Bridge, as well as motorists descending from Flagstaff House to TBS, will be diverted through Obalende Bridge.

Similarly, traffic from Outer Marina heading towards TBS will also be rerouted via Obalende Bridge.

The government appealed for patience and cooperation from residents and road users, noting that the measures are necessary to ensure a smooth and safe carnival experience.

Authorities also expressed regret over any inconvenience the closures may cause, while emphasizing the cultural significance of the Fanti Carnival in Lagos’ tourism calendar.
