LIRS Extends Deadline for Filing Individual Tax Returns to April 21, 2026

The Lagos State Internal Revenue Service has announced a further extension of the deadline for filing individual annual income tax returns, shifting the date from April 14 to April 21, 2026.

In a statement released on Friday, the agency said the decision followed a surge in activity on its electronic tax platform, as taxpayers intensified efforts to meet the earlier deadline. The extension, according to LIRS, is aimed at easing the filing process and ensuring that all taxpayers have sufficient time to complete their submissions accurately.

The agency noted that the increased traffic on its eTax portal reflects a growing level of compliance among residents, which it described as commendable. However, it emphasized the need to accommodate the high volume of users to avoid technical challenges that could hinder successful filings.

LIRS reiterated that the submission of annual income tax returns is a statutory obligation for all eligible individuals and urged taxpayers to utilize the extended window to meet their civic responsibilities.

The Executive Chairman of the agency, Ayodele Subair, stressed that all returns must be filed exclusively through the official LIRS eTax platform, https://etax.lirs.net which remains the only approved channel for submission.

Taxpayers requiring assistance have been advised to visit any LIRS office or reach out through the agency’s official communication channels for support.
