Ogunsan Hosts Lagos CP Tijani at LSSTF, Calls for Stronger Asset Ownership and Maintenance Culture

IKEJA, Lagos, April 21, 2026 – The Executive Secretary/CEO of the Lagos State Security Trust Fund (LSSTF), Dr. Ayo Ogunsan, has called for a stronger culture of ownership and maintenance among security operatives in Lagos State, stressing that public security assets must be properly managed to ensure sustainability and operational efficiency.

He made the appeal on Tuesday during a strategic visit by the Commissioner of Police,  Lagos State Command, CP Fatai Tijani, and senior officers to the LSSTF headquarters in Alausa, Ikeja.

Welcoming the delegation, Ogunsan emphasized that while significant resources are committed to acquiring operational assets such as vehicles and communication equipment for security agencies, their value is often undermined by poor maintenance practices.

He noted that without a deliberate culture of ownership, such investments risk rapid deterioration, reduced efficiency, and diminished public confidence in the security system.

Ogunsan commended the Lagos State Police leadership but urged greater accountability in the use of LSSTF-provided assets.

“Ownership and maintenance culture among officers remains a critical concern. A lot goes into securing approvals to provide these assets, so they must be properly managed,” he said.

He further proposed the creation of an Asset Monitoring Unit within the Lagos State Police Command and pledged support for its establishment, including the provision of a new operational vehicle to enhance its effectiveness. He stressed that the unit should be empowered to enforce compliance with maintenance standards.

In his response, CP Tijani expressed appreciation for LSSTF’s sustained support to the police and described the engagement as a “homecoming,” noting his long-standing involvement in the Lagos policing system.

He acknowledged challenges around asset maintenance within the command, adding that corrective measures were already being implemented.

“Taking ownership has always been an issue. If we do not take care of what we have, we risk losing them. We are putting in place a monitoring mechanism to improve accountability and maintenance culture,” the CP said.

He assured that the command was committed to reforming its approach and strengthening internal oversight systems to ensure better management of operational assets.

CP Tijani also highlighted the dynamic nature of security in Lagos State, noting that policing strategies must continuously evolve to respond to emerging threats.

He further referenced a new initiative by the Inspector-General of Police, IGP Olatunji Rilwan Disu, the establishment of a Violent Crime Response Unit, for which he sought LSSTF’s continued support.

The visit was attended by senior officers including the Assistant Commissioner of Police, Operations; ACP Ehindero Lawrence; Operations Admin, ACP Aka Shittu; Admin, ACP Mulero Victoria; Police Public Relations Officer, SP Abimbola Adebisi; and ASP Adeoye Olufemi.

The engagement concluded with the presentation of a commemorative plaque by CP Tijani to Dr. Ogunsan, symbolising renewed partnership between the LSSTF and the Lagos State Police Command in strengthening security operations across the state.
