Onireti Emerges City Boy Movement DG in Oyo, Signals Shift in Political Mobilisation Ahead of 2027

A fresh twist has emerged in Oyo State’s political landscape as Hon. Olufemi Onireti has been appointed Director-General of the City Boy Movement, a prominent grassroots support structure backing backing Bola Ahmed Tinubu, in a move observers say could reshape mobilisation strategies ahead of the 2027 general elections.

The political atmosphere in Oyo State witnessed a significant development on Monday with the emergence of Hon. Olufemi Onireti as the new Director-General of the City Boy Movement.

The appointment was formally announced in Abuja by the movement’s national Director-General, Francis Shoga, during the presentation of the appointment letter to Onireti.

Onireti’s elevation comes just days after his resignation from the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP), where he was an active stakeholder and a former House of Representatives candidate.

The leadership of the movement said his selection was informed by his extensive political network, organisational competence, and strong grassroots appeal, particularly among youths.

In his reaction, Onireti expressed appreciation for the trust placed in him, pledging to leverage his experience to strengthen the movement’s presence and effectiveness across the state.

He described his decision to align with the ruling party as a product of personal conviction and evolving political realities, noting his commitment to a broader progressive alliance at both state and national levels.

The new DG disclosed that his appointment followed wide consultations with his supporters and political associates, assuring that his leadership would emphasise inclusiveness, strategic mobilisation, and clear communication.

“I am committed to galvanising our structures and ensuring that Oyo State remains a stronghold for the ideals we stand for,” he stated.

Political analysts suggest that Onireti’s move could alter the dynamics of grassroots mobilisation in Oyo State, given his influence and recent political realignment.

The City Boy Movement, a youth-driven platform promoting President Tinubu’s Renewed Hope agenda, is expected to unveil a new operational roadmap in the coming days as it intensifies preparations toward the 2027 elections.
