Lagos Security Trust Fund Boosts Police Firepower With Three Armoured Personnel Carriers

In a major move aimed at strengthening security operations across Nigeria’s commercial capital, the Lagos State Security Trust Fund (LSSTF) has handed over three refurbished Armoured Personnel Carriers (APCs) to the Lagos State Police Command to enhance rapid response and tactical policing operations.

The intervention highlights the growing collaboration between the Lagos State Government and the LSSTF in sustaining a modern security architecture capable of responding to emerging security threats in the state.

Widely regarded as one of Nigeria’s most impactful public-private security support institutions, the LSSTF has consistently supported security agencies through the provision of operational vehicles, surveillance equipment, communication gadgets, protective gear, logistics support, and capacity-building initiatives.

Speaking during the handover ceremony, the Commissioner of Police, Lagos State Command, CP Fatai Tijani, described the donation as a strategic intervention that would significantly improve operational mobility and crime-fighting efficiency across Lagos State.

“The LSSTF has just donated three APCs in order to enhance operational capacity. This is a good one because it is one of the resources that we need to enhance our efficiency,” the police commissioner stated.

CP Tijani noted that the newly refurbished Armoured Personnel Carriers would enable officers to respond more effectively to security threats, particularly in difficult terrains and high-risk locations across the state.

“We can move to every nook and corner with this Armoured Personnel Carrier to combat any crime,” he added.

Also speaking at the event, the Director of Administration of the LSSTF, Mr. Degbola Lewis, who represented the Executive Secretary/CEO of the Fund, Dr. Ayodele Ogunsan, said the donation aligns with the agency’s core mandate of equipping security agencies with critical operational tools needed for effective policing and public safety management.

“This is in furtherance of our mandate to provide equipment, logistics, and training to security agencies in order to enhance security in Nigeria,” Lewis stated.

According to him, the LSSTF remains committed to identifying and addressing the operational needs of security agencies through strategic partnerships and sustained institutional support.

“There is a need for us to ensure that we provide adequate equipment for them. We also work in conjunction with the security agencies to determine what they require,” he added.

Security stakeholders believe the deployment of the APCs will further strengthen patrol operations, rapid deployment capacity, emergency response, and tactical interventions of the Lagos State Police Command.

The latest donation also reinforces the broader objective of ensuring that frontline security personnel are adequately equipped to safeguard lives, critical infrastructure, and economic activities in Lagos, regarded as West Africa’s economic hub.

Senior police officers present during the ceremony included the Deputy Commissioner of Police, Operations, DCP Lawal Adeshina; Deputy Commissioner of Police, Administration, DCP Khan Salihu; Assistant Commissioner of Police, Operations, ACP Ehindero Lawrence; ACP Jayeoba of the Force Intelligence Department; and the Commander of the Rapid Response Squad (RRS), CSP Shola Jejeloye.
