MasterChef Nigeria Delivers Emotional Elimination After Intense Egusi Challenge

The intensity inside the MasterChef Nigeria kitchen reached new heights as the latest Pressure Test challenge delivered another emotional elimination, leaving contestants fighting to keep their culinary dreams alive.

Following a disappointing performance in the previous Team Challenge, Demilade, Fads, Loye and Favy were thrown into the dreaded Black Apron battle, where survival in the competition depended on their ability to replicate a deceptively difficult dish created by acclaimed Nigerian chef,Chef Soliat Bada.

The challenge centred on an elevated Egusi and Corn Bisque — a modern interpretation of a beloved Nigerian classic that combined comfort food with refined culinary techniques. Despite its familiar appearance, the dish proved to be one of the toughest tests yet for the contestants.

With no recipe, no hints and no opportunity to ask questions, the home cooks were forced to rely entirely on instinct, taste and technical skill as they attempted to recreate Chef Soliat’s complex flavours and presentation.

For Demilade, the challenge carried additional emotional weight. As captain of the losing Red Team from the previous challenge, she entered the kitchen under immense pressure and openly struggled with self-doubt throughout the episode. Speaking candidly about her state of mind, she explained that she believed great cooking comes from love and positive energy — emotions she found difficult to channel under the circumstances.

Although she completed her dish, the judges concluded that her interpretation failed to meet expectations, resulting in her elimination from the competition and bringing her MasterChef Nigeria journey to an emotional close.

Watching safely from the gantry were members of the victorious Blue Team — David, Preye, Isabella and Derry — who had secured immunity after winning the Fashion Challenge earlier in the competition.

Fads, meanwhile, leaned heavily on what she described as her strongest kitchen skill — her palate. Confident in her ability to identify and balance flavours, she approached the challenge as a strict replication test rather than a creative exercise.

“This is not an inspiration challenge, it’s a replication challenge,” she said during the episode.

Her strategy paid off, earning praise from the judges for successfully recreating Chef Soliat’s Egusi and Corn Bisque.

Favy also impressed the judges despite struggling with presentation, as the flavours in her dish closely matched the original.

Loye emerged as the standout performer of the day, delivering what the judges described as his strongest dish of the competition so far. Judge Chef Eros praised the contestant for finally trusting his instincts instead of overthinking in the kitchen.

The impressive performance earned Loye the coveted Dish of the Day title.

With the competition narrowing, tensions are expected to rise even further next week as the remaining contestants head into another high-stakes Black Apron Challenge, where a single mistake could end their journey to becoming Nigeria’s next MasterChef.

MasterChef Nigeria airs weekly on Sundays at 7pm on Africa Magic Showcase and Africa Magic Family, with rebroadcasts on Wednesdays and Thursdays respectively.
