NDLEA Arrests Three Persons With Disabilities for Drug Trafficking, Uncovers N5.8bn Cannabis Stash in Lekki
The National Drug Law Enforcement Agency (NDLEA) has arrested three persons living with disabilities for alleged involvement in drug trafficking operations across Anambra and Kwara states, while also uncovering a massive drug stash worth over N5.8 billion in Lekki, Lagos.
According to the agency, the suspects were apprehended during separate intelligence-led operations carried out by NDLEA operatives in different parts of the country.
One of the suspects, 60-year-old Romanus Nwabara, was arrested on Wednesday, May 6, 2026, at Akpaka Forest in Onitsha, Anambra State, following credible intelligence. He was reportedly found in possession of 250 grams of skunk packaged in retail sachets.
In another operation in Ogbunike, Anambra State, NDLEA officers arrested 25-year-old Amos Kenneth on Thursday, May 7. Recovered from him were 160.3 grams of Tramadol (225mg and 100mg), 80 pills of Diazepam, 38.23 grams of Exol-5, and 176.93 grams of skunk.
Similarly, in Kwara State, operatives on patrol along Bode Saadu intercepted a commercial vehicle on Friday, May 8, where a passenger identified as Usman Salisu was allegedly caught with 6.3 kilograms of skunk concealed in a brown school bag.
In Lagos, NDLEA operatives attached to the Special Operations Unit raided a mansion located at 36 African Lane, Lekki Phase 1, being used as a drug stash house. During the operation carried out on Friday, May 8, officers recovered 4,000 parcels of “Loud,” a potent strain of imported cannabis, weighing 2,326 kilograms and valued at over N5.815 billion.
The agency also seized two Mercedes-Benz buses and several designer packaging sachets allegedly used for retail distribution of the illicit substance.
Elsewhere, NDLEA operatives arrested 38-year-old Emmanuel Osita Okeke at Nyanya Karu in Nasarawa State with 129 kilograms of skunk.
In Kogi State, officers on patrol along the Okene-Lokoja highway intercepted a white commuter J5 bus travelling to Abuja. A search of the vehicle led to the discovery of 76 jumbo bags of skunk weighing 766 kilograms. Three suspects — Mathew Omohove, Ebuka Desmond, and Babangida Musa — were arrested in connection with the seizure.
The anti-narcotics agency also dismantled a makeshift skuchies production factory in the Ijora Badia area of Lagos on Wednesday, May 6. Two suspects, Bose Jamiu and Gbenga Gege, were reportedly caught preparing the psychoactive mixture by cooking cannabis and combining it with other illicit substances.
Recovered from the factory included 270 litres of already processed skuchies and 106 grams of Tramadol 225mg.
NDLEA said its commands and formations nationwide also sustained the agency’s War Against Drug Abuse (WADA) sensitisation campaigns in schools, communities, workplaces, and religious centres across several states during the past week.
The awareness activities were held at institutions and communities including Ta’al Model Secondary School in Lafia, Nasarawa State; Federal College of Education, Ilawe Ekiti; traditional rulers in Udi Local Government Area of Enugu State; Adventist Secondary Technical College in Owerrinta, Abia State; Golden Anchor Secondary School in Shomolu, Lagos; and other locations across Kano, Akwa Ibom, and Oyo states.
Commending the officers involved in the operations, NDLEA Chairman and Chief Executive Officer, Brig. Gen. Mohamed Buba Marwa (Rtd), praised the agency’s balanced approach of combining drug supply reduction with anti-drug abuse advocacy and urged operatives nationwide to sustain the momentum.
