Oluremi Tinubu Bags “Soniyako Nupe” Title in Bida

Nigeria’s First Lady, Oluremi Tinubu, has been conferred with the prestigious traditional title of Soniyako Nupe by the Etsu Nupe, Yahaya Abubakar, in Bida, Niger State, in a ceremony held on Saturday, May 2, 2026.

The colourful event, which attracted top government officials and dignitaries, saw the First Lady formally decorated by the revered monarch, marking her recognition for contributions to national development and her engagement with communities across Nigeria.

During the ceremony, the Etsu Nupe, Yahaya Abubakar, personally adorned the First Lady with the insignia of the title and presented her with a certificate, symbolising her new status as Soniyako Nupe. The title, deeply rooted in Nupe cultural heritage, is reserved for individuals who have demonstrated notable service and commitment to societal advancement.

The event also featured the presence of the Governor of Niger State, Mohammed Umaru Bago, alongside his deputy, Yakubu Garba. Also in attendance was the Governor’s wife, Fatima Bago, who joined other dignitaries in celebrating the First Lady’s honour.
