Aroyewun, Hi-Tech Partner on Flood Control in Igbogbo

IGBOGBO, LAGOS — Residents of flood-prone communities in Igbogbo have received relief following a joint intervention by the Igbogbo/Baiyeku Local Council Development Area (LCDA) and Hi-Tech Construction Company aimed at addressing persistent flooding challenges in the area.

The intervention, carried out on Monday, June 1, 2026, focused on Basorun Crescent and areas behind UAMC Primary School in Igbogbo, where blocked drainage channels had contributed to recurring flooding and environmental concerns.

The Executive Chairman of Igbogbo/Baiyeku LCDA, Hon. Hammed Olalekan Aroyewun, initiated the response after an inspection tour of affected locations, including the end of Olorunfunmi Basorun Crescent, areas behind UAMC Eleja Primary School, and streets adjoining Zumratul Islamiyyah Grammar School.

During the inspection, the chairman observed extensive blockage of drainage channels caused by accumulated refuse and debris. In response, he immediately facilitated a public-private partnership with Hi-Tech Construction Company to tackle the problem.

Represented by its Project Manager, Mr. Dandre Gabar, the construction firm promptly deployed personnel and heavy-duty equipment to the affected sites.

The exercise resulted in the evacuation of refuse from drainage channels and surrounding areas, desilting of blocked drains, and the removal of debris obstructing the free flow of water.

Speaking on the intervention, Aroyewun said the deteriorating condition of the drainage infrastructure required urgent action to prevent further hardship for residents.

“When I saw the condition of the drainage behind UAMC Eleja Primary School, I knew we could not wait another day. I immediately reached out to Hi-Tech Construction Company, and I am pleased they responded without delay,” he said.

The council chairman noted that the intervention had already provided immediate relief to residents and road users in the affected communities.

Beyond the emergency response, Hi-Tech Construction Company has also committed to a sustained drainage clearing and rehabilitation programme in the area following discussions with the council leadership.

Aroyewun commended the company and its project manager for their swift response and professionalism, describing the initiative as a practical demonstration of the public-private partnership approach being promoted under his administration's GLORY Agenda.

According to the council, the collaboration is expected to enhance environmental sanitation, reduce flood risks, and improve the overall wellbeing of residents in the affected communities.
