FCT Police Rescue Five Kidnap Victims, Arrest Two Suspects, Neutralize Two in Byazhin Operation

ABUJA, Nigeria – The Federal Capital Territory (FCT) Police Command has rescued five kidnapped victims following a coordinated security operation in the Byazhin area of Abuja. The operation, personally led by Commissioner of Police Ahmed Muhammed Sanusi, resulted in the arrest of two suspected kidnappers, the neutralization of two others, and the recovery of two AK-47 rifles.

 The Federal Capital Territory (FCT) Police Command has successfully rescued five kidnapped victims during a joint security operation carried out in the Byazhin area of Abuja.

The operation followed a series of kidnapping incidents reported in the Paze community of Byazhin. In response, the Commissioner of Police, FCT Command, CP Ahmed Muhammed Sanusi, personally led a special clearance and rescue mission involving operatives of the Command’s Anti-Kidnapping Unit, the Nigeria Police Force Intelligence Response Team (IRT), and the Kubwa Area Command. The team was supported by local hunters and vigilante groups.

According to the Police Public Relations Officer, SP Josephine Adeh, the operation commenced at about 9:00 p.m. on June 9, 2026, with security personnel conducting extensive search and clearance activities across Paze and surrounding communities.

During the operation, police operatives engaged suspected kidnappers in a gun battle. Two of the suspects were neutralized, while two others identified as Icheh Mohammadu and Abubakar Usman were arrested. Several members of the gang reportedly escaped into nearby hills with varying degrees of gunshot injuries.

Security operatives also recovered two AK-47 rifles along with magazines from the suspects. The Command has appealed to healthcare workers, public and private hospitals, and members of the public to report any individual seeking treatment for gunshot wounds under suspicious circumstances.

Police said the sustained pressure mounted on the criminal group forced the kidnappers to abandon five hostages, who were subsequently rescued unharmed.

The victims were taken to a medical facility for evaluation and treatment and are expected to be reunited with their families after receiving necessary care.

Meanwhile, security agencies have intensified search operations across the affected communities and surrounding areas to apprehend fleeing suspects and dismantle the criminal network responsible for the kidnappings.

Commending the efforts of the operatives and local security volunteers, CP Sanusi praised their courage, resilience, and professionalism throughout the operation. He reiterated the Command’s commitment to combating kidnapping and other violent crimes within the Federal Capital Territory.
