Igbogbo/Baiyeku LCDA Cracks Down on Crime, Dismantles Drug Dens and Illegal Clubs in Surprise Security Operation
The Chairman of Igbogbo/Baiyeku Local Council Development Area (LCDA), Prince (Omo'ba) Olalekan Aroyewun, has intensified efforts to combat insecurity within the council area, leading a Joint Security Taskforce on a surprise operation that uncovered illicit drug hideouts, unapproved clubs, and criminal black spots across the community.
The Chairman of Igbogbo/Baiyeku Local Council Development Area (LCDA), Prince (Omo'ba) Olalekan Aroyewun, has reaffirmed his administration's commitment to ensuring the safety of lives and property through proactive security measures aimed at eliminating criminal activities within the council area.
Speaking during a press briefing following a coordinated enforcement operation, Aroyewun disclosed that the exercise was carried out by the Igbogbo/Baiyeku LCDA Joint Task Force based on credible intelligence reports received from residents, Community Development Associations (CDAs), Community Development Committees (CDCs), and security stakeholders.
The chairman explained that the operation involved an unscheduled visit to several shanties and suspected criminal hideouts across the LCDA, where security operatives uncovered illegal activities including the sale and consumption of illicit drugs, the operation of unapproved clubs, and other forms of criminality threatening the peace and security of the community.
According to him, the decision to embark on the operation was part of resolutions reached during recent security meetings and consultations with community leaders who had repeatedly raised concerns over the activities of criminal elements operating within the area.
"This administration will not fold its arms while criminal elements turn our communities into safe havens for illegal activities. Government has a responsibility to protect lives and property, and we will continue to take decisive actions against any threat to public safety," Aroyewun stated.
He revealed that several suspects were arrested during the raid, while various illicit substances and other incriminating items were recovered. The suspects have since been handed over to relevant security agencies for further investigation and prosecution.
The chairman noted that intelligence gathering, surveillance, and prompt responses to information supplied by residents remain key components of the council's security strategy. He urged members of the public to continue supporting security agencies by providing useful information that could help identify criminal hideouts and suspicious activities within their neighborhoods.
Aroyewun also called on parents, guardians, and community leaders to play active roles in discouraging youths from engaging in criminal activities, stressing that insecurity can only be effectively tackled through collective efforts.
Addressing concerns over the rising incidents of motorcycle theft and the activities of unidentified commercial motorcyclists, the council boss disclosed that the LCDA had commenced engagements with transport unions and community leaders to ensure proper registration and documentation of all commercial motorcycle operators.
He explained that every registered rider would be issued an identification card, while transport union leaders would be held accountable for the conduct of operators under their jurisdiction.
"We are strengthening collaboration with transport unions, ethnic groups, CDAs, CDCs, and security agencies to ensure proper monitoring and accountability. Anyone operating within our communities must be properly identified," he said.
The chairman further assured residents that the council would sustain routine security operations and continue working closely with law enforcement agencies to identify and dismantle criminal networks operating within the LCDA.
He added that investigations are ongoing to determine the ownership of properties linked to the illegal activities uncovered during the operation, while all arrested suspects will face prosecution in accordance with the law.
Residents have commended the council's proactive approach to security, describing the operation as a significant step towards restoring public confidence and maintaining peace across Igbogbo/Baiyeku LCDA.
