Power Minister Commends TCN, NDPHC, AEDC for Boosting Electricity Supply and Infrastructure Expansion
Nigeria's Minister of Power, Joseph Tegbe, has praised the Transmission Company of Nigeria (TCN), Niger Delta Power Holding Company (NDPHC), and Abuja Electricity Distribution Company (AEDC) for significant achievements aimed at strengthening the nation's electricity infrastructure and improving power supply across the country.
The Honourable Minister of Power, Joseph Tegbe, has commended the management and staff of the Transmission Company of Nigeria (TCN), Niger Delta Power Holding Company (NDPHC), and Abuja Electricity Distribution Company (AEDC) for their recent accomplishments in expanding and restoring critical power infrastructure across the country.
In a statement made available to journalists, the Minister praised TCN for the successful energisation of a new 300MVA transformer at the Katampe Transmission Substation in Abuja. According to him, the project will significantly increase transmission capacity within the Federal Capital Territory (FCT) and improve electricity delivery to consumers.
Tegbe also applauded the coordinated efforts of TCN and AEDC in responding swiftly to the sudden failure of a 100MVA transformer in the FCT last Friday, which disrupted power supply to several parts of Abuja. He noted that both organisations promptly deployed technical teams and resources, working round the clock to restore electricity within 24 hours.
The Minister described the rapid intervention as a strong example of effective inter-agency collaboration and citizen-focused service delivery being promoted by the Ministry of Power.
He further commended the management of NDPHC, led by Managing Director Engr. Jennifer Adighije, for successfully reviving the 450-megawatt Alaoji Open Cycle Power Plant in Abia State. The facility, developed under the National Integrated Power Projects (NIPP), had remained inactive for three years since 2023.
With its restoration, the power plant is now capable of dispatching up to 375 megawatts of electricity to the national grid, a development expected to improve power supply across the South-East region and enhance overall grid stability nationwide.
Tegbe assured workers and agencies within the power sector that excellence, productivity, and dedication to duty would continue to receive recognition under his leadership. He reaffirmed the Federal Government's commitment to improving electricity infrastructure and service delivery, while urging stakeholders across the sector to remain innovative, focused, and committed to ensuring reliable power supply to homes, businesses, and industries across Nigeria.
