CREDICORP Launches C.L.I.C.K.D. Scheme to Provide Affordable Credit for Laptops, Digital Devices
The Nigerian Consumer Credit Corporation (CREDICORP), in partnership with the Federal Ministry of Communications, Innovation and Digital Economy, has launched the C.L.I.C.K.D. (Credit for Laptops, Internet, Connectivity and Knowledge Digital Devices) programme to provide affordable consumer credit for laptops and other digital devices, beginning with beneficiaries of the Federal Government's Three Million Technical Talent (3MTT) Programme.
The Nigerian Consumer Credit Corporation (CREDICORP) has unveiled the C.L.I.C.K.D. (Credit for Laptops, Internet, Connectivity and Knowledge Digital Devices) programme, a new initiative designed to expand access to affordable consumer credit for laptops, internet-enabled devices and other digital tools for Nigerians.
The programme was launched on Tuesday at the Afreximbank African Trade Centre (AATC) in Abuja through a partnership between CREDICORP and the Federal Ministry of Communications, Innovation and Digital Economy.
According to CREDICORP, the initiative is aimed at eliminating the high upfront cost of acquiring digital devices, enabling more Nigerians to participate in the country's growing digital economy through responsible consumer credit.
The first phase of the programme is being implemented in collaboration with the Federal Government's Three Million Technical Talent (3MTT) Programme and targets fellows undergoing training on the Learn2Earn platform.
Under the pilot phase, 1,000 locally assembled laptops will be provided to eligible beneficiaries across the country through structured financing arrangements. At the launch ceremony, 77 beneficiaries in Abuja received their laptops as the first batch of a nationwide rollout.
The programme is being delivered in partnership with Fidelity Bank, which serves as the credit administration partner, while the National Agency for Science and Engineering Infrastructure (NASENI) and Imose Technologies are responsible for assembling the laptops locally.
Speaking at the launch, the Minister of Communications, Innovation and Digital Economy, Dr. Bosun Tijani, said the initiative would strengthen Nigeria's digital economy by ensuring that skilled Nigerians have access to the tools required to succeed.
"Nigeria's digital economy can only thrive when our people have both the skills and the tools to succeed. Through C.L.I.C.K.D., we are helping qualifying Nigerians participate more fully in the opportunities created by the 3MTT initiative while strengthening local manufacturing through the use of locally assembled devices," the minister said.
Managing Director and Chief Executive Officer of CREDICORP, Engr. Uzoma Nwagba, described the initiative as a major step towards making digital devices more accessible through affordable financing.
According to him, C.L.I.C.K.D. converts digital devices from a barrier into an opportunity by embedding consumer credit into a national talent development programme.
He noted that the initiative would not only help Nigerians acquire the tools needed to learn, work and earn, but also support the Federal Government's industrialisation agenda by promoting local manufacturing and job creation.
CREDICORP said although the programme is launching with the 3MTT initiative, it is designed as an open, multi-partner platform that will eventually serve working Nigerians across the country.
The corporation also invited additional financial institutions, device manufacturers and technology vendors to participate in the scheme as it scales nationwide in collaboration with the Central Bank of Nigeria (CBN), training institutions and other strategic partners.
Interested Nigerians can apply for the programme through the CREDICORP C.L.I.C.K.D. registration portal. For more information, visit: www.credicorp.ng.
