Nigerian Navy Commissions Solar-Powered Borehole, Water Project in Niger Community

The Nigerian Navy has commissioned a solar-powered potable water project in Muye community, Lapai Local Government Area of Niger State, providing residents with improved access to clean water through a 35,000-litre overhead tank and a modern water reticulation system as part of its Corporate Social Responsibility initiative.

The Nigerian Navy has commissioned a Special Intervention Quick Impact Project comprising an industrial solar-powered borehole, a 35,000-litre overhead tank and a water reticulation system in Muye community, Lapai Local Government Area of Niger State.

The project, inaugurated on Wednesday, July 8, 2026, was executed in honour of the Commandant of the Naval War College Nigeria, Rear Admiral Mohammed Adamu Muye, as part of efforts to give back to his hometown and improve access to potable water for residents.

Representing the Chief of the Naval Staff, Vice Admiral Idi Abbas, at the commissioning ceremony, the Director of Veteran Affairs, Rear Admiral Raheem Taofeeq, said the intervention was carried out under the Chief of the Naval Staff Special Intervention Quick Impact Project, which forms part of the Nigerian Navy's Corporate Social Responsibility programme.

According to him, the initiative aligns with the Federal Government's Renewed Hope Agenda and serves as a platform for recognising distinguished senior officers of the Nigerian Navy while delivering impactful community development projects.

The Special Guest of Honour, Abdulmalik Abubakar, Chief of Staff to the Honourable Minister of Information and National Orientation, commended the Chief of the Naval Staff for facilitating the project, describing it as a significant intervention that will ease the burden of residents who previously travelled long distances in search of clean water.

He noted that the availability of potable water would improve public health, hygiene and sanitation, particularly among families and schoolchildren in the community.

Speaking during the event, the project facilitator and Commandant of the Naval War College Nigeria, Rear Admiral Mohammed Adamu Muye, expressed appreciation to the Chief of the Naval Staff for providing the opportunity to execute the intervention, describing it as a meaningful way of contributing to the development of his hometown.

The commissioning ceremony attracted royal fathers, senior military officers, officials of the Lapai Local Government Area and other distinguished guests, who witnessed the inauguration of the community water project.
