 NUJ Lagos: Dakuku Peterside to Examine Media’s Role in Nigeria’s Trillion-Dollar Economy

Former Director-General and Chief Executive Officer of the Nigerian Maritime Administration and Safety Agency (NIMASA), Dr Dakuku Peterside, is set to deliver the keynote lecture at the 2026 Nigeria Union of Journalists (NUJ), Lagos State Council Annual Lecture.

Peterside, a leadership strategist, management turnaround expert and public policy advocate, will speak on the theme, “Politics, Ports and the Public Interest: The Media’s Catalytic Role in Driving Economic Growth.”

The lecture is scheduled for 10:00 a.m. at the Radio Lagos/Eko FM Multipurpose Hall, Lagos Television (LTV) Complex, Lateef Jakande Road, Agidingbi, Ikeja, Lagos.

According to the organisers, the lecture will examine the relationship between politics, ports and the media, with particular attention to the role of the media in promoting economic development and advancing Nigeria’s ambition of building a trillion-dollar economy.

Peterside is expected to draw on his experience in leadership, governance, public policy, maritime administration and organisational transformation to examine how the media can contribute to economic growth and national development.

The annual lecture forms part of the 2026 NUJ Lagos State Council Press Week, scheduled to hold from Monday, September 28 to Sunday, October 4, 2026.

Other activities lined up for the week include the Chapel Rendezvous on Thursday, October 1, at 4:00 p.m. within the LTV premises.

A Juma’at Service will take place on Friday, October 2, at 1:00 p.m. at the Lagos State Secretariat Mosque, Central Business District, Alausa, Ikeja.

Also on Friday, the council will host its Gala and Awards Night at 4:00 p.m. at the BOS Hall, LTV Complex, Lateef Jakande Road, Agidingbi, Ikeja.

The Press Week will end with a Thanksgiving Service on Sunday, October 4, from 10:00 a.m. at the Chapel of Christ the Light (Interdenominational), CBD, Alausa, Ikeja.

The NUJ Lagos State Council, in a statement signed by its chairman, urged journalists across Lagos to participate actively in the week-long programme.

The council said the Press Week would provide media professionals with an opportunity to network, exchange ideas, strengthen professional relationships and reflect on the contribution of journalism to society.

It added that the 2026 Press Week would also provide an avenue for journalists and other stakeholders to celebrate shared professional values, promote unity and reaffirm their commitment to responsible and professional journalism.
