DCP Olasoji Akinbayo Renovates Police Hostel at Enugu NYSC Camp
By Oki Samson
Deputy Commissioner of Police (DC Operations) for Enugu State Command, DCP Olasoji Olasunkanmi Akinbayo, has undertaken the renovation of the female police hostel at the NYSC orientation camp in Awgu, Enugu State. This effort aligns with his commitment to improving the welfare of those who serve and protect.
The hostel, which houses police officers responsible for ensuring the security of Corps members during their 21-day orientation program, had been in a state of disrepair. Responding to a call for assistance from the new NYSC Enugu State Coordinator, Mrs. Oluwakemi Awolola, DCP Akinbayo embarked on the project to provide a more conducive living environment for the officers.
A Remarkable Transformation
The renovation has significantly upgraded the facility, with tiled floors, newly installed doors, windows, and burglary-proof fittings, as well as beds and other furnishings to enhance comfort. The revitalized hostel now stands as a testament to DCP Akinbayo’s dedication to humanitarian service and his belief in leaving every place he serves better than he found it.
During the official handover of the keys to Mrs. Awolola, the NYSC Coordinator expressed profound gratitude on behalf of the entire NYSC and the female police officers who are direct beneficiaries of the renovation. She praised DCP Akinbayo’s generosity and called on other stakeholders and philanthropists to join in developing the orientation camp to improve conditions for Corps members and staff.
A Legacy of Service and Integrity
This is not the first time DCP Akinbayo has demonstrated his commitment to improving infrastructure and service delivery. From Ikeja to Apapa and Mushin, his track record includes numerous projects that have brought positive change to communities where he has served.
Notably, in 2015, DCP Akinbayo made headlines for rejecting a bribe of ₦21 million and $12,900, offered to let a criminal escape arrest. His unwavering integrity earned him commendations, including a letter of recognition from the Nigerian Bar Association.
The recipient of TheMediaGood Newspaper’s Defender of the Faith Award, DCP Akinbayo is celebrated as a resourceful, upright, and deeply committed officer. Beyond his administrative duties, he continues to play a pivotal role in maintaining law and order across Enugu State, in line with the policing mandate of the Inspector-General of Police, IGP Kayode Adeolu Egbetokun.
A Call to Action
The renovation of the female police hostel at the NYSC camp underscores the importance of collaboration between government agencies, stakeholders, and individuals in addressing infrastructural challenges. As Mrs. Awolola emphasized, collective efforts are vital to creating a better environment for those who serve the nation.
DCP Olasoji Akinbayo’s initiative serves as an inspiring example of leadership, service, and dedication, reflecting his enduring commitment to uplifting lives and enhancing communities.
