PSC Approves Promotion of Three AIGs, Elevates 16 DCPs to CPs

The Police Service Commission (PSC) has approved the promotion of three Commissioners of Police (CPs) to the rank of Assistant Inspector General of Police (AIG) and elevated 16 Deputy Commissioners of Police (DCPs) to substantive Commissioners of Police (CPs).

The newly promoted AIGs include CP Garba Ahmed, CP Yobe State Command; CP Nemi Edwin Osigoboka Iwo, CP Border Patrol; and CP Salman Garba Dogo, CP Kwara State Command.

Profiles of the Newly Promoted AIGs

AIG Garba Ahmed, from Katsina State, previously served as Deputy Commissioner of Operations in Enugu and Oyo State Commands before his appointment as CP Yobe State Command.
AIG Nemi Edwin Osigoboka Iwo held key positions, including CP Counter-Terrorism Unit (CTU), Force Headquarters, CP Force Intelligence, and CP Edo State Command.
AIG Salman Garba Dogo formerly served as CP General Intelligence, Force Criminal Investigation Department (FCID), CP Armament, and CP Kano State.

16 Deputy Commissioners Elevated to Commissioners of Police

The PSC also approved the promotion of 16 DCPs to CPs. They include:

PSC’s Commitment to Professional Conduct

The promotions were ratified during an extraordinary meeting of the PSC, presided over by Chairman DIG Hashimu Argungu (rtd), mni, and attended by Hon. Justice Paul Adamu Galumje (rtd), DIG Taiwo Lakanu (rtd), fdc, and Chief Onyemuchi Nnamani, Secretary to the Commission.

Candidates underwent written examinations and oral interviews before their promotions were approved.

In his remarks, DIG Argungu (rtd) urged the newly promoted officers to avoid involvement in civil matters such as land disputes, marital issues, and debt collection, emphasizing that such cases should be handled by the courts. He warned that the PSC would take decisive action against any officer found engaging in such activities.

He also assured the officers that the Commission would continue to monitor and support them in their new roles to ensure effective policing and public service.
