Comptroller Onyeka Strengthens Security Collaboration, Calls for National Security Prioritization

Lagos, March 2025 – The Customs Area Controller of the Tincan Island Port Command, Comptroller Frank Onyeka, has emphasized the need for stronger collaboration among security agencies to safeguard Nigeria’s national security.

Speaking during a courtesy visit by the Commanding Officer of the Nigerian Navy Forward Operating Base, Badagry, Navy Captain Omotayo Busuyi Oyeleye, Comptroller Onyeka reiterated that beyond its core duties of revenue generation, trade facilitation, and anti-smuggling efforts, the Tincan Island Port Command is committed to fostering a formidable alliance with sister agencies to curb criminal activities at the seaports.

Describing security breaches at the ports as detrimental to national development, Onyeka commended the Nigerian Navy for its efforts in securing the nation’s waterways and preventing sea robberies. In response, Navy Captain Oyeleye lauded the Nigeria Customs Service (NCS) for its proactive involvement in joint security patrols, noting that the agency’s contributions have been instrumental in the success of collaborative operations.

Strengthening Ties with Agricultural Quarantine Services

In a related development, Comptroller Onyeka paid a familiarization visit to the Controllers of the Nigeria Agricultural Quarantine Services at PTML and Tincan Island Commands. During the meeting, which took place at the Quarantine office in Tincan, he reaffirmed the Customs Service’s commitment to working closely with the agency to enhance operational efficiency.

Onyeka assured the Quarantine Service of continued support, highlighting the importance of integrating their activities with those of the Customs Command to promote better synergy in trade regulation and border security.

The visit reflects the NCS’s broader strategy to deepen inter-agency collaboration and bolster national security efforts, ensuring a more secure and prosperous environment for trade and economic activities.
