Nigeria Customs Service Debunks Fake Report on Comptroller-General’s Tenure Extension

Abuja, April 1, 2025 – The Nigeria Customs Service (NCS) has refuted a false report claiming an extension of the tenure of the Comptroller-General of Customs, Bashir Adewale Adeniyi, MFR. The NCS clarified that no such directive has been issued by the appropriate authorities.

In a statement issued on Monday, the NCS stated that appointments and tenure extensions for the office of the Comptroller-General are exclusively at the discretion of the President and Commander-in-Chief of the Armed Forces, in accordance with the Nigeria Customs Service Act 2023 and other relevant regulations.

“For the avoidance of doubt, no official communication regarding an extension has been received by the NCS from the Presidency or any authorized channel,” the statement read.

The Customs Service reaffirmed its commitment to trade facilitation, revenue generation, and border security under the leadership of CGC Bashir Adewale Adeniyi. It emphasized that ongoing reforms aimed at modernizing customs operations and enhancing inter-agency collaboration remain its primary focus.

The NCS urged the public and stakeholders to rely solely on official communication channels for verified information regarding the agency. It reassured Nigerians of its dedication to transparency, professionalism, and national service.
