World Day Against Child Labour: First Lady Oluremi Tinubu Calls for Urgent Action to End Child Labour in Nigeria

As the global community marks the World Day Against Child Labour 2025, the First Lady of the Federal Republic of Nigeria, Senator Oluremi Tinubu, CON, has called for accelerated efforts to eliminate child labour in all its forms across the country.

In a statement issued on Wednesday, June 12, the First Lady aligned with the global theme, “Let’s Speed Up Efforts! End Child Labour!”, emphasizing the urgent need to protect vulnerable children and secure their right to education and a better future.

“Today, we raise our voices for millions of children whose dreams are stolen by the harsh reality of child labour,” Senator Tinubu said. “It is unacceptable that children are still forced to work instead of going to school, pursuing their dreams and learning how to grow into productive members of the society.”

She stressed the importance of strengthening existing laws, supporting families economically, and investing in inclusive and quality education as key strategies to combat the scourge.

“Let us speed up efforts to end child labour in all ramifications by strengthening our laws, supporting families, and investing in quality education for every child,” the First Lady added.

Senator Tinubu also made a passionate appeal to Nigerians to work together in creating an environment where children are free to dream, grow, and reach their full potential.

“I urge us to work towards building a country where every child is free to thrive, dream, and reach their God-given potential,” she stated.

The First Lady concluded her message with a blessing for all Nigerian children, reaffirming her commitment to their welfare and protection.

“God bless our precious children!” she declared.

The World Day Against Child Labour, observed annually on June 12, is a United Nations initiative aimed at raising awareness and driving global and national action to eliminate child labour in all its forms.
