Ibeju-Lekki LG Boss Inaugurates Flood Mitigation and Planning Committee



Ibeju-Lekki, July 22, 2025 — As part of efforts to address perennial flooding in Ibeju-Lekki, the Executive Chairman of the Local Government, Hon. Abdullahi Sesan Olowa, has inaugurated a Flood Mitigation and Planning Committee tasked with developing effective strategies to tackle the menace.

The committee was formally inaugurated on Monday, July 22, 2025, and is made up of stakeholders from various sectors within the local government.



According to Hon. Olowa, the committee’s mandate includes identifying flood-prone areas and the root causes of flooding, recommending practical mitigation measures, and developing a comprehensive plan that will guide the council’s efforts in managing environmental challenges.

The committee is also expected to provide technical support, identify necessary resources, and explore partnerships with relevant stakeholders to implement the proposed strategies.

Members of the newly inaugurated committee include:

  • Hon. Isiaka Yusuf Olatunji – Member
  • Mr. Kamiyo Adetola Tijani – Secretary
  • Hon. Gbenga Kazeem Balogun – Member
  • Hon. Akorede Ojomu – Member
  • Mrs. Mary Akinola, Head of Department, Environment – Member
  • Comrade Adeboye Jabita, CDC Chairman – Member
  • Hon. Ajumobi Lateef, CTA Environment – Member

The Chairman charged the committee to approach the assignment with urgency and professionalism, noting that proactive planning and collaboration are essential to safeguarding lives and property, especially during the rainy season.



The inauguration is part of the council’s broader environmental sustainability agenda aimed at building resilience in the face of climate-related risks in Ibeju-Lekki.
