Anambra Govt Condemns Assault on NYSC Member, Vows Justice
The Anambra State Government has condemned in strong terms the assault of a National Youth Service Corps (NYSC) member by operatives of Operation Udo Ga-Achi in Oba, Idemili South Local Government Area.
A disturbing video of the incident, which surfaced online, shows the corps member being harassed and assaulted by members of the security outfit.
In a statement, the Commissioner for Information, Law Me For, described the act as unacceptable and contrary to the mandate of the state’s security agencies. He explained that both Operation Udo Ga-Achi and Agunechemba were established under the Anambra Homeland Security Law 2025 to safeguard lives and property, not to intimidate or assault residents.
“Since their introduction on January 18, 2025, the two outfits have played commendable roles in maintaining law and order across the state. Any form of misconduct or assault by their personnel is outside their code of conduct, and those involved in this incident will face the full weight of the law,” the statement read.
The government reassured corps members and the public that they have nothing to fear, urging them to go about their lawful duties without intimidation.
It also commended the swift intervention of the police and the leadership of Operation Udo Ga-Achi in arresting those involved, and called on the victims to cooperate with investigators to ensure speedy justice.
