Hon. Olowa Flags Off Construction of 400m Lakowe–Losoro Link Road

The Executive Chairman of Ibeju-Lekki Local Government, Hon. (Engr.) Abdullahi Sesan Olowa, has flagged off the construction of the 400-metre Lakowe–Losoro Link Road, a long-awaited project aimed at easing transportation challenges and boosting economic activity in the area.

The groundbreaking ceremony, held opposite the Lakowe Central Mosque, drew traditional rulers, legislative leaders, community associations, and residents, all of whom hailed the project as a major step forward for the community.

Speaking on behalf of the Chairman, Hon. Isiaka Yusuf Olatunji described the road as a critical intervention that will address persistent flooding, improve access to Lakowe Market Square and the Community Health Centre, and create new economic opportunities.

In his message, Hon. Olowa said:

“This road has for years been a source of hardship to commuters and residents. Today, we begin to change that story. Beyond concrete and asphalt, this project represents inclusiveness and shared progress. I urge the people of Lakowe and Losoro to protect this investment—it belongs to us all.”

Leader of the Legislative Council, Hon. Mojeed Olayinka, noted that residents had endured poor road access for too long, particularly during the rainy season. He assured the community that “better days are here” and called for collective support to ensure smooth execution.

The Ojomu of Lakowe, His Royal Majesty Oba Abdulhakeem Adisa Olusegun, commended the local government for prioritizing infrastructure development and pledged the cooperation of the traditional institution. He also urged residents to safeguard construction equipment and embrace the project as their own.

Other goodwill messages came from the Divisional Police Officer, CSP Sulaiman Kabir; CDA Chairman, Mr. Erinfolami; and the Executive Director of O2’s Development Services Ltd., the contractors handling the project. They emphasized security, community ownership, and timely completion.

Residents also expressed excitement at the development. Mrs. Khadijat Eleku, a trader in Lakowe, said:

“This link road will open our community to new opportunities. Customers can now reach us more easily, and that means growth for small businesses.”

Project Details:

• Length: 400 metres
• Design: Single-lane carriageway with double-sided drainage and solar street lighting
• Contractor: O2’s Development Services Ltd.
• Duration: Eight months (starting September 2025)

The Olowa-led administration assured residents of efficient monitoring until completion. Temporary diversions will be in place during construction, and residents were advised to observe safety guidelines.

The event was also attended by members of the Legislative Council, the Council Manager, Mr. Abiodun Oladipupo Otinwa, senior council officials, Baales, and other community leaders.
