Soludo Pledges Completion of Uga Smart School Project by Year-End

Governor Charles Chukwuma Soludo of Anambra State has assured that the ongoing transformation of Uga Boys High School into a model smart school will be completed before the end of the year.

The governor gave the assurance during an unscheduled inspection visit to the school, where he expressed satisfaction with the pace and quality of work. He commended the contractors and workforce for their dedication, noting that the project was only awarded a few months ago but has recorded impressive progress.

During the visit, it was observed that existing structures within the school were being reconstructed while new facilities, including multi-storey classroom blocks, a gatehouse, drainage systems, and internal road networks, were under development.

Uga Boys High School is one of 22 secondary schools currently being upgraded into model smart schools across the state under the Anambra State Universal Basic Education Board (ASUBEB) programme, approved by the State Executive Council (ANSEC). Governor Soludo said the initiative is designed to set a new benchmark for what an ideal school should look like.

Commissioner for Information, Dr. Law Mefor, explained that the smart school project aligns with the administration’s broader education reforms, which include expanding free education to Senior Secondary School 3 (SS3), recruiting 3,115 additional teachers—bringing the total to 8,115—and equipping 60 secondary school laboratories with modern STEM (Science, Technology, Engineering, and Mathematics) facilities. He added that the state has also increased operational budgets for both primary and secondary schools to ensure improved teaching and learning outcomes.

Beyond physical infrastructure, Soludo’s administration is also investing heavily in digital skills development for youths. Through the One-Youth-Two-Skills scheme, 7,163 out of 11,000 trainees in Cohort One have successfully graduated in 65 skill areas, while 235 apprentices from the Local Enterprise Development scheme across the 21 local governments also excelled. The programme has already produced over 1,000 new millionaires, with Cohort Two set to commence.

Governor Soludo reaffirmed that education and youth empowerment remain top priorities for his administration, stressing that building smart schools and nurturing tech-driven communities are key to preparing Anambra for the future.
