Soludo Restates Commitment to Quality Healthcare as Ojukwu Varsity Trauma Centre Nears Completion

Governor Charles Chukwuma Soludo of Anambra State has reiterated his administration’s determination to deliver a quality healthcare system, describing it as a critical pillar of his government’s development agenda.

Speaking during an inspection tour of the Trauma Centre under construction at the Chukwuemeka Odumegwu Ojukwu University Teaching Hospital, Amaku, Awka, Soludo said the project is designed to close a major gap in the state’s healthcare infrastructure. He noted that the centre, now at an advanced stage of completion, will be fully ready within the next two months, with equipment installation already in progress.

The governor explained that while his government has made significant progress in primary and secondary healthcare — including the construction of five new general hospitals and the recruitment of health professionals — the new trauma facility underscores his focus on strengthening tertiary healthcare delivery.

Recently, the administration also enhanced medical services at the General Hospital, Anaku, in Ayamelum Local Government Area, through the provision of modern electrical and mechanical fittings.

Commissioner for Information, Dr. Law Mefor, described the trauma centre as a key component of Governor Soludo’s healthcare reforms, which have witnessed remarkable growth in the past three years.

The governor’s efforts have earned Anambra national recognition. The state was adjudged the best-performing state in primary healthcare in the Southeast and across Nigeria, winning $1.2 million under the Primary Health Care Leadership Challenge — $500,000 for regional excellence and $700,000 for overall national performance.

Since assuming office, Soludo has employed 1,000 health workers, including doctors, nurses, consultants, pharmacists, and laboratory scientists, while also introducing telemedicine to expand access to medical care.

Beyond healthcare, Anambra also ranked fourth nationally in the 2024 BudgIT State of States Report, which assessed fiscal performance and sustainability, further underlining Soludo’s reputation for innovative and accountable leadership.
