Aroyewun, Rotary Vocational Training Centre Strengthen Ties on Youth Empowerment

In a renewed effort to advance youth empowerment and skill acquisition, the Chairman of Igbogbo/Baiyeku Local Council Development Area (LCDA), Omo’ba Hammed Olalekan Aroyewun (HOA), has reaffirmed his administration’s commitment to building productive partnerships that foster community development and self-reliance among young people.

Aroyewun made this known on Tuesday, October 14, 2025, when he received members of the Rotary Vocational Training Centre on a courtesy visit to his office at the Council Secretariat. The meeting was aimed at strengthening collaboration between the Council and the Centre to expand skill development and entrepreneurship programmes across Igbogbo/Baiyeku LCDA.

Speaking at the meeting, the Principal of the Rotary Vocational Training Centre, Mrs. Adesina Olayemi, expressed appreciation to Chairman Aroyewun for his continued support for youth-oriented initiatives. She highlighted the Centre’s achievements since its establishment on May 14, 2018, disclosing that over 500 youths have been trained in various vocations, including hairdressing, shoemaking, soap production, and wig making.

“Our vision is to empower young men and women to become self-reliant and productive citizens,” Mrs. Adesina stated. “We look forward to stronger collaboration with the Council, especially in technology and startup support, to help our trainees grow their businesses and contribute meaningfully to the local economy.”

Also speaking, the Vice Chairman of the Council, Barr. Ade Ayeni, lauded the Centre’s contributions to human capital development, noting that skill acquisition remains a vital pathway to economic independence.

“While jobs may not always be guaranteed, your skill is guaranteed,” Ayeni remarked, emphasizing that vocational education offers young people lifelong opportunities for growth and stability.

In his response, Chairman Aroyewun praised the Rotary Vocational Training Centre for its commitment to empowering local youths and driving grassroots development. He assured the institution of the Council’s continued support in expanding its impact across more communities within the LCDA.

“We are ready to support Rotary in every area that benefits our people,” Aroyewun affirmed. “Our administration will continue to promote skill development, moral discipline, and community empowerment as key pillars of progress under our GLORY Agenda.”

He further urged the Centre to incorporate character-building programmes alongside vocational training to raise responsible and value-driven citizens.

The Rotary delegation included Miss Ogunlana Romoke (Vice Principal); Mr. Wasiu Buhari (Leatherwork Instructor); Onilekun Bukola (Catering Instructor); Oladokun Segun Samuel (Barbing Instructor); Abiodun Adesewa Ayomide (Makeover Instructor); Ojediran Bukola E. (ICT Instructor); Loya Victoria O. (Event Planning & Decoration Instructor); Abdulgafar Mubarak (Fashion Instructor); Jamiu Faruq (Phone Repair Instructor); and Igbonoba Ngozi M. (Music Instructor).

The visit ended with an exhibition of trainees’ creative works—ranging from handcrafted slippers and wigs to soaps and decorative items—demonstrating the Centre’s impact on youth empowerment and local entrepreneurship.
