Mentorship with HOA: Young Beneficiaries Reap Rewards as Dignitaries Fulfil Promises

Weeks after the inaugural “Mentorship with HOA” session held to mark the 2025 International Youth Day, the ripple effects of the initiative continue to inspire hope among young people in Igbogbo/Baiyeku LCDA and beyond.

The mentorship programme, conceived by the Chairman of Igbogbo/Baiyeku LCDA, Omo’ba Hammed Olalekan Aroyewun (HOA), was designed to motivate and empower youths to pursue purposeful living and contribute meaningfully to their communities.

In a remarkable show of commitment and accountability, dignitaries who attended the event have begun redeeming their pledges to outstanding participants who distinguished themselves during the session.

The Lagos State Commissioner for Youth and Social Development, Hon. Mobolaji Ogunlende, who delivered the keynote address at the event, recently presented a brand-new laptop to Ayomide Oshin, a young participant who shared his dream of studying Cybercrime and Digital Security. The gesture, Ogunlende said, was to encourage Ayomide’s passion for technology and help him take his first steps into the world of digital innovation.

Similarly, the Chairman of Ikoyi/Obalende LCDA, Hon. Bola Oladunjoye, also fulfilled his promise by donating a laptop to another outstanding participant. His contribution, according to observers, reinforces the growing commitment among local leaders to promote digital literacy and creativity among Nigerian youths — aligning with the programme’s theme, “Local Youth Actions for SDGs and Beyond.”

Further demonstrating the spirit of mentorship, Engr. Gbenga Ogunlewe, Director of Mechanical Engineering at the Lagos State Public Works Corporation, donated educational materials and laptops to selected students, emphasizing the importance of collaboration in youth development.

For the young beneficiaries, the fulfilled pledges represent more than mere gifts — they are life-changing opportunities and affirmations of their potential. Parents and community leaders have hailed the initiative as a model for sustainable grassroots youth empowerment.

Reacting to the development, Chairman Omo’ba Hammed Olalekan Aroyewun commended the dignitaries for keeping their promises and extending the impact of the mentorship initiative beyond the event day.

“When promises are fulfilled and young lives are lifted, our mission as leaders finds true meaning,” Aroyewun said.

He reaffirmed his administration’s commitment to creating more opportunities that will inspire, equip, and prepare youths in Igbogbo/Baiyeku for leadership roles and global relevance.

The “Mentorship with HOA” session was part of Aroyewun’s broader youth development agenda, aimed at raising a generation of innovative, confident, and community-driven young leaders in the LCDA.
