FG Targets 100MW Power Boost for Lagos, with Ibeju-Lekki Among Key Beneficiaries

In a major step toward improving electricity access and supporting industrial growth, the Federal Government has unveiled plans to deliver at least 100 megawatts (MW) of additional power to Lagos State through an upgraded solar energy project — with Ibeju-Lekki identified as one of the primary beneficiaries.

The initiative was discussed during a strategic session held yesterday between the Lagos State Commissioner for Energy and the National Energy Masterplan Implementation Committee, led by Dr. Nurudeen of the Energy Commission of Nigeria. Also in attendance were representatives of the Nigerian Governors’ Forum and officials of Energy China, the key investors driving the project.

The Executive Chairman of Ibeju-Lekki Local Government, Hon. Abdullahi Sesan Olowa, who also serves as Chairman of Conference 57, participated in the high-level meeting, where discussions centred on how the solar power solution would enhance the state’s electricity supply and boost economic productivity.

Following the session, the delegation embarked on an inspection tour of the proposed power station sites in Ibeju-Lekki, led by the Vice Chairman, Hon. Isiaka Yusuf Olatunji, who guided the team through the designated project areas.

The initiative aligns with the Lagos State Government’s long-term plan to achieve energy sufficiency, promote clean energy adoption, and accelerate infrastructure development within the Ibeju-Lekki Model City, which is fast emerging as a key industrial and residential hub in Nigeria.
