First Lady Oluremi Tinubu champions women’s digital empowerment as RHI/Huawei tech training ends

....Urges beneficiaries to become change agents in their communities

The First Lady of the Federal Republic of Nigeria, Senator Oluremi Tinubu, has reiterated her commitment to empowering women through technology, stating that when women are equipped with the right tools and knowledge, they become powerful agents of change within their families, communities, and the nation at large.

She made the remark at the formal closing ceremony of the Renewed Hope Initiative (RHI)/Huawei Women in Tech Training Programme, where 300 women from Nigeria’s six geopolitical zones were trained and certified.

According to the First Lady, the initiative aligns with President Bola Ahmed Tinubu’s Renewed Hope Agenda, which seeks to promote inclusive growth and digital empowerment by driving economic diversification through industrialization and digitization.

“This training programme is a digital empowerment initiative by the Renewed Hope Initiative in collaboration with Huawei Technologies Company Limited,” Senator Tinubu said. “It is aimed at equipping female entrepreneurs with practical technological skills to scale up their businesses, participate meaningfully in the digital economy, and become champions of digital transformation in their communities.”

She encouraged participants to continuously build on the knowledge gained, noting that technology evolves rapidly.
“Your biggest strength is your ability to keep learning, evolving, and adapting to new trends,” she advised. “Use your new skills to solve real problems in your communities, because true innovation is only valuable when it improves lives.”

Senator Tinubu expressed appreciation to Huawei Technologies for partnering with the Renewed Hope Initiative, pledging that the administration will continue to support technological advancement and economic empowerment across the country.

“I congratulate all participants representing diverse sectors such as agriculture, fashion, catering, retail, event management, and technology services,” she said. “I also urge you to mentor other women and young girls who may think technology is not for them. Be the guides who show them that the digital world is for everyone.”

In his remarks, the Director-General of the National Information Technology Development Agency (NITDA), Mallam Kashifu Inuwa Abdullahi, commended the programme, describing it as a valuable platform that positions Nigerian women for success in a technology-driven global economy.

The Managing Director of Huawei Nigeria, Mr. Chris Lou, also expressed gratitude to the First Lady for the collaboration, adding that the initiative demonstrates Huawei’s commitment to women’s economic and social development.

Out of the 300 participants, 24 women were recognised as outstanding performers, while certificates of participation were presented by the Wife of the Vice President, Hajia Nana Shettima, the Wife of the Deputy Senate President, Hajia Laila Barau, and the Wife of the Kwara State Governor, Amb. Dr. Olufolake Abdulrazaq, among others.

The event, held at the Banquet Hall of the State House, Abuja, was attended by wives of state governors, members of the National Assembly, and heads of security agencies, among other dignitaries.
