Lagos Intensifies Disease Prevention Efforts with Statewide Outbreak Response Immunization Campaign

The Lagos State Government, through the Lagos State Primary Health Care Board (LSPHCB), has launched a comprehensive Outbreak Response (OBR) Campaign to bolster immunization coverage and prevent the spread of vaccine-preventable diseases across the state.

The exercise, which kicked off in Agege Local Government Area, forms part of the government’s proactive strategy to sustain high population immunity and curb possible disease resurgence, particularly among children under five years of age.

Leading the flag-off, the Permanent Secretary, LSPHCB, Dr. Ibrahim Akinwunmi Mustafa, mni, conducted supportive supervision at selected health facilities in Agege to assess vaccine availability, ensure quality service delivery, and verify compliance with operational standards.

Dr. Mustafa, who was joined by the Chairman of Agege Local Government, Hon. Abdulganiyu Obasa, and other senior officials, emphasized the state government’s unwavering commitment to safeguarding public health through continuous vaccination and rapid outbreak response.

“The Lagos State Government remains deeply committed to protecting the health of its citizens through sustained immunization activities,” Dr. Mustafa stated. “Our goal is to ensure that no eligible child is left out. Immunization is safe, free, and remains the most effective protection against preventable diseases.”

He also commended the resilience and dedication of frontline health workers, urging parents and caregivers to actively participate by ensuring their children receive all required vaccines.

In his remarks, Hon. Obasa reaffirmed Agege Local Government’s support for state-led health interventions, stressing that community participation remains crucial to achieving the desired coverage.

“We are working closely with the Lagos State Primary Health Care Board to ensure every household in Agege benefits from this vital initiative,” he said.

According to the LSPHCB, the Outbreak Response Campaign will continue across all local government areas of Lagos, with monitoring and compliance checks by supervisory teams led by the Permanent Secretary to ensure all performance targets are achieved.
