.....Rekindles decades-long friendship, emphasizes loyalty and support among political leaders
The Olubadan of Ibadanland, His Imperial Majesty Oba Rasheed Adewolu Ladoja, CFR, on Thursday paid a courtesy visit to Senator Anthony Adefuye at his Lekki residence in Lagos. The visit, described as both historic and symbolic, rekindled a friendship that dates back to the early 1990s when both statesmen served together in the Senate alongside President Bola Ahmed Tinubu.
The meeting attracted an impressive array of dignitaries, including the Chairmen of Bariga and Somolu Local Governments, Hon. Bukola Adedeji (popularly known as Iyaniwura) and Hon. Lateef Asimi, along with their Vice Chairmen, Hon. Taiwo Ojomu and Hon. Adesida, respectively. Also present were the Honourable Members representing Somolu Constituencies 1 and 2 in the Lagos State House of Assembly, Hon. Abdul Hakeem Apata and Hon. Femi Fakoya.
According to sources, Oba Ladoja’s visit was in recognition of the long-standing camaraderie shared by members of the Governance Advisory Council (GAC), many of whom were present during his recent coronation ceremony in Ibadan. The occasion served not only as a friendly reunion but also as an opportunity to strengthen mutual respect and political alliances that have endured for decades.
The Olubadan was warmly received amid songs, jubilation, and heartfelt accolades. In his remarks, the revered monarch expressed deep appreciation for Senator Adefuye’s steadfast loyalty and consistency over the years. He recalled their shared experiences in the Red Chamber and their continuous contributions to Nigeria’s socio-political development.
Oba Ladoja emphasized the importance of loyalty, unity, and mutual respect among political leaders and traditional institutions, noting that such virtues are essential for the country’s stability and progress.
“I have always believed that loyalty and consistency are virtues that define true leadership. Our friendship has stood the test of time because it is built on those values. I am pleased to see that the spirit of unity still thrives among us,” the Olubadan stated.
In his response, Senator Adefuye expressed profound gratitude to the Olubadan for the honour of the visit, describing him as a man of peace, integrity, and enduring wisdom. He commended the monarch’s exemplary leadership and prayed for his continued reign in good health and divine guidance.
The gathering, which radiated warmth and nostalgia, concluded with light entertainment and reflections on Nigeria’s political evolution from the 1990s to the present day.
Observers noted that the visit underscores the importance of collaboration between traditional rulers and political leaders in fostering peace, understanding, and unity for national development.
