Oluremi Tinubu Urges Women to Embrace Small Beginnings as 2025 RHI/NITDA ICT Training Empowerment Programme Ends
Nigeria’s First Lady, Senator Oluremi Tinubu, has encouraged women across the country to embrace humble beginnings and pursue digital empowerment with confidence and consistency. She gave the charge at the closing ceremony of the 2025 Renewed Hope Initiative (RHI)/NITDA Women ICT Training Empowerment Programme.
Addressing the participants, Senator Tinubu urged them not to fear starting small, stressing that excellence — even on a modest scale — always attracts recognition.
“Don’t be afraid to start small. When you do it small and do it very well, somebody will take note,” she said.
She recalled the early days of the Alternative High School for Girls, which she established as Lagos State First Lady — a concept that was once new but has now expanded to over 40 thriving institutions nationwide. The First Lady said this growth represents the power of nurturing seemingly small initiatives into major milestones.
Senator Tinubu praised the evolution of the ICT training programme, which began with 35 women and has now empowered 607 participants across Nigeria. She described the women as “ambassadors of digital literacy” and urged them to apply their new skills and pursue continuous growth within the digital space.
Earlier, the Director-General of the National Information Technology Development Agency (NITDA), Mallam Kashifu Inuwa Abdullahi, underscored the importance of equipping Nigerian women with digital tools for economic advancement. He noted that Nigeria cannot attain its ambition of becoming a one-trillion-dollar economy if half of its population is not digitally empowered.
He reaffirmed NITDA’s vision of driving inclusive growth through innovation, saying, “In the 21st century, the illiterate are those who cannot use digital devices. We want to empower every Nigerian to develop digital fluency — not just to access the digital economy but to be an active part of it.”
A total of 320 women drawn from the six geopolitical zones participated in the 2025 edition of the programme. Each beneficiary received a brand-new laptop and N200,000 seed funding to support their digital and entrepreneurial pursuits.
