One-Way Driver in Highlander Jeep Knocks Mini-Bus Driver Unconscious on Kudirat Abiola Way, Ikeja

A mini-bus driver was left unconscious on Sunday after a reckless motorist driving against traffic crashed into his vehicle along Kudirat Abiola Way by Clay Bus Stop, inward Radio Junction, Ikeja.

According to reports from the Lagos State Traffic Management Authority (LASTMA), the accident occurred when a Toyota Highlander SUV (registration number SMK 343 JV), allegedly driving one-way at high speed, rammed head-on into a commercial mini-bus (Korope) with registration number MUS 662 YG.

The impact was so severe that the mini-bus driver was knocked unconscious, while both vehicles sustained heavy damage.

LASTMA officials, who arrived at the scene shortly after the crash, swiftly rescued the injured driver, administered first aid, and facilitated his emergency transfer to a nearby hospital for further treatment.

To ensure proper investigation, operatives from the Alausa Police Division were called in to take over the case. The Highlander SUV was later towed to the LASTMA yard in Alausa, while the mini-bus was moved to the Alausa Police Division for further inquiry.

The area was temporarily cordoned off to prevent further accidents and to allow smooth recovery operations. Normal traffic flow was restored after the vehicles and debris were cleared from the road.

Reacting to the incident, Mr. Olalekan Bakare-Oki, General Manager of LASTMA, condemned the dangerous act of driving against traffic, describing it as “a conscious act of lethal negligence tantamount to attempted manslaughter.”

“Driving in the opposite direction of traffic is as deadly as wielding a weapon,” Bakare-Oki said. “Any motorist who willfully violates the one-way restriction is not merely breaching the law but deliberately endangering the lives of innocent road users.”

He reaffirmed the Lagos State Government’s zero tolerance for traffic violations and warned that offenders would face the full weight of the law.

Bakare-Oki also commended the swift and professional response of LASTMA operatives, noting that their timely intervention helped save lives and quickly restored normalcy to the busy corridor.

He further wished the injured mini-bus driver a speedy recovery.
