Sisters’ Hangout 1.0 Debuts in Lagos, Inspires New Movement for Women Supporting Women

The maiden edition of Sisters’ Hangout, an initiative convened by seasoned broadcaster and Director General of Imo Broadcasting Corporation (IBC), Chief Ify Onyegbule, debuted in Lagos on Friday, November 21, drawing women from diverse professional and entrepreneurial backgrounds to a powerful gathering centred on collaboration, intentional networking and shared growth.

Held at the Sheraton Hotel, Lagos, the event challenged long-standing stereotypes that women do not support one another, instead promoting a new narrative rooted in unity, collective empowerment and purposeful partnerships.

In her keynote address, Chief Onyegbule described the Hangout as more than a social gathering, emphasizing that it is a strategic platform designed to build a thriving network of visionary women committed to lifting one another.

“Women-owned businesses and career paths flourish when we share opportunities and collaborate intentionally. Today marks the beginning of a new era of sisterhood, support systems and shared success,” she said.

According to her, the platform aims to become a safe space where women can connect, exchange practical solutions, and forge long-term partnerships that drive sustainable impact.

The event featured high-energy networking activities, personal storytelling and inspiring conversations that encouraged participants to embrace bold thinking, expand their networks and pursue growth-driven collaborations. Professionals, creatives, entrepreneurs and corporate executives exchanged contacts and identified areas for partnership.

Participants resolved to extend the impact of the Hangout beyond the event by:

At the close of the event, Chief Onyegbule announced that Sisters’ Hangout 2.0 is already in the works, with plans to expand participation across various sectors and professions.

“This movement has begun. We are building a tribe of women who think big, grow big and win together. Every woman who believes in purpose-driven networking and support systems is welcome to join us,” she said.
