Soludo Approves 30 New Schools as Anambra Deepens Education Reforms

Anambra State Governor, Professor Chukwuma Charles Soludo, has approved the construction of 30 new primary schools across communities without public primary or secondary schools, in a fresh move to strengthen the state’s free education policy and ongoing sector-wide reforms.

The decision was part of resolutions reached at the 22nd Anambra State Executive Council (ANSEC) meeting held on November 12, 2025, at the Light House, Awka. According to the Commissioner for Information, Dr. Law Mefor, the new schools will support the administration’s goal of ensuring that every community benefits from the state’s free education programme.

Under Governor Soludo’s education reforms, free schooling now covers primary school to Senior Secondary School 3 (SS3). The state has also recruited an additional 3,115 teachers—bringing the total to 8,115— to strengthen teaching capacity across public schools.

Other achievements highlighted include the upgrade of 22 secondary schools to smart schools, the equipping of more than 60 school laboratories with modern STEM facilities, and an increased operational budget for both primary and secondary schools to enhance learning outcomes.

During the meeting, the Council also adopted the 2026–2028 Medium Term Expenditure Framework (MTEF), a key step preceding the presentation of the 2026 Appropriation Bill to the Anambra State House of Assembly. The goal is to ensure the budget receives assent by December 31, 2026.

The Council further reviewed the November 8 governorship election in which Governor Soludo won a resounding second-term mandate with 73 percent of the total votes, securing victory in all 21 Local Government Areas. Members described the result as evidence that focused governance and impactful policies translate to electoral success.

The Council expressed gratitude to the people of Anambra for their peaceful conduct during the polls and pledged to intensify efforts toward delivering more development-oriented initiatives across the state.
