AIG Fayoade Assures Lagos, Ogun Residents of Safe Festive Season at Zone 2 Christmas Carol and End-of-Year Celebration
Lagos – The Nigeria Police Zone 2 Command yesterday, Tuesday, December 23, 2025, hosted its annual Christmas Carol and End-of-Year Celebration at the Zone 2 Command Headquarters in Onikan, Lagos, marking a season of gratitude, reflection, and inter-agency collaboration.
The event, themed “Peace and Joy to the World,” brought together senior security officials, community leaders, transport unions, civil society groups, religious leaders, and members of the media. Stakeholders whose partnership with the police strengthened security in the zone—covering Lagos and Ogun States—were recognised with appreciation awards.
The celebration featured performances by the Command’s choristers, alongside invited choirs including St. John’s Church Choir, Falomo, presenting hymns and festive songs in appreciation to God.
AIG Adegoke Fayoade, Assistant Inspector-General of Police in charge of Zone 2, read the first Bible passage and led the audience in a minute of silence to honour officers who lost their lives in the line of duty. He assured residents that the Police had implemented robust security measures to guarantee a safe and peaceful festive season.
“As you all know, in policing, we prepare for challenges. The measures we put in place have drastically reduced the rate of crime, accidents, and other fatalities on the road. I assure you that throughout this period, crime will be kept under strict control,” Fayoade said. He acknowledged the potential for isolated incidents due to increased human traffic but stressed that identified flashpoints had been secured, ensuring safety across the zone.
DCC Umar Bamaiyi, representing the Federal Road Safety Corps (FRSC) Zonal Commander, emphasized the ongoing synergy between the Police and FRSC, particularly in promoting road safety during the festive rush. He warned against reckless driving, advising: “If you drink, don’t drive. And if you fall asleep, don’t drive. Safety is a shared responsibility that begins at home and in the workplace.”
One of the award recipients, transport union leader Alhaji Shehu Riliwan Olawale Yekini, expressed gratitude for the recognition, urging Nigerians, especially youths, to support law enforcement and uphold lawful conduct for the safety and security of all.
The event, attended by dignitaries including Mrs. Fayoade, representatives from the Federal Road Safety Corps and Nigerian Immigration Service, concluded with carols, prayers, and renewed commitments to peace, collaboration, and national stability.
