#IGP Appoints DSP Afolayan Gbenga as New Zone 2 Police Public Relations Officer
The Inspector-General of Police, IGP Kayode Adeolu Egbetokun, PhD, NPM, has appointed DSP Afolayan Gbenga as the new Police Public Relations Officer (PPRO) for Zone 2 Command, Onikan, Lagos.
The appointment was disclosed in a press statement e-signed by the Zonal Deputy Police Public Relations Officer, DSP Olowe Raphael, and made available to the National Association of Online Security News Publishers (NAOSNP).
According to the statement, the Zone 2 Command Headquarters informed the general public that DSP Afolayan Gbenga has assumed duty following the recent posting and deployment of Police Public Relations Officers by the Inspector-General of Police.
DSP Afolayan Gbenga, who hails from Ijero Ekiti Local Government Area of Ekiti State, enlisted into the Nigeria Police Force on December 20, 2018, as a Cadet Assistant Superintendent of Police under Regular Course 1. He was trained at the Nigeria Police Academy, Wudil, Kano State, where he obtained a Bachelor of Science degree in Mathematics.
He has attended several professional courses, including a Combat Operations Course at the Police Mobile Force Training School, Ila-Orangun, Osun State, and the Operational Leadership and Command Course (OLCC) at the Police Staff College, Jos, Plateau State.
The new Zone 2 PPRO has served in various capacities within the Ondo State Command, including postings at Enuowa Division, Fanibi Division, the CP Monitoring Unit, and as Deputy Police Public Relations Officer. He also served as Personal Assistant to the Assistant Inspector-General of Police at the Zone 17 Headquarters, as well as to the Commissioner of Police, Ondo State Command. Until his recent deployment, he was attached to the Police Special Fraud Unit, Ikoyi, Lagos.
DSP Afolayan Gbenga is described as an officer with vast experience in administration, operations, investigations and police public relations. He has expressed his commitment to strengthening trust-based communication and fostering a progressive partnership with the public through effective engagement and service delivery.
The Zone 2 Command called on residents of Lagos and Ogun States, the media and other stakeholders to extend their support and cooperation to the new PPRO as he assumes office.
