Kirikiri Lighter Terminal Customs Strengthens Anti-Corruption, Security Ties with ICPC, Correctional Service
The Kirikiri Lighter Terminal (KLT) Area Command of the Nigeria Customs Service has intensified efforts to strengthen inter-agency collaboration following strategic courtesy visits to the Lagos Office of the Independent Corrupt Practices and Other Related Offences Commission (ICPC) and the Zonal Headquarters of the Nigerian Correctional Service, Zone A, Lagos.
The visits, carried out on Wednesday, December 17, 2025, were led by the Acting Customs Area Controller (CAC), Deputy Comptroller B.L. Adigun, as part of his leadership drive to promote professionalism, operational efficiency, and synergy among government institutions.
At the ICPC Lagos Office, Deputy Comptroller Adigun was received by the Resident Anti-Corruption Commissioner, Mr. Chukwura Alexander, fsi, alongside senior officials of the Commission. The Acting CAC underscored the importance of sustained collaboration in the fight against corruption, noting that stronger partnerships would enhance internal control mechanisms, improve compliance, and boost public confidence in government institutions.
He described transparency and accountability as critical pillars for effective public service delivery, stressing that closer engagement with the ICPC would further entrench ethical standards within the Nigeria Customs Service.
In his response, Mr. Alexander described the visit as timely and strategic, commending the Kirikiri Lighter Terminal Command for its proactive and forward-thinking approach. He noted that corruption often thrives where agencies operate in silos and praised the Acting CAC for bridging institutional gaps through collaboration.
Mr. Alexander assured that the ICPC would continue to work closely with the Nigeria Customs Service to strengthen transparency, promote compliance, and support integrity-driven initiatives, adding that sustained cooperation would deepen public trust and accountability across government institutions.
At the Zonal Headquarters of the Nigerian Correctional Service, Zone A, Lagos, Deputy Comptroller Adigun was warmly received by the Assistant Controller-General in charge of the zone, Mr. Jude Agboje, and other senior officers. He emphasized the need for closer collaboration among security and law enforcement agencies to address emerging operational and security challenges.
According to him, effective information sharing, coordinated operations, and joint initiatives remain critical to enhancing national security and improving institutional effectiveness.
Responding, Mr. Agboje described the visit as highly significant, praising the Acting CAC for his vision and commitment to inter-agency synergy. He noted that partnerships of this nature strengthen law enforcement efforts and promote intelligence-driven operations.
The Assistant Controller-General also commended the Kirikiri Lighter Terminal Command for its Corporate Social Responsibility (CSR) project within the Correctional Service facility, describing the gesture as impactful and worthy of appreciation. He pledged continued collaboration, stressing that both agencies would work together through shared expertise and joint initiatives to achieve lasting results.
