Lagos Police Nab Benin Republic Couple, Accomplice Over Alleged Abduction and Killing of TikTok Acquaintance
The Lagos State Police Command has arrested a Benin Republic couple and one other suspect in connection with the alleged abduction and killing of a man they reportedly met through social media in Ikorodu, Lagos State.
Police sources confirmed that the suspects — Mr. Sunday Sojunu, 35, and his wife, Mrs. Toyin Sojunu, 31, both nationals of the Republic of Benin — are currently in custody at the State Criminal Investigation Department (SCID), Panti, Yaba, alongside an alleged accomplice, Dare Sampson, said to be of no fixed address.
The victim, identified as Ayoola J. Bello, a resident of Odolowa Street, Imodi, Ijebu-Ode, Ogun State, was reportedly lured from Ogun State to Ikorodu in November 2025 under the pretext of a friendly visit.
Investigations revealed that Mrs. Sojunu, a petty trader and social media content creator, allegedly met the deceased through TikTok, where they became acquainted and later met physically in Ogun State. Police sources allege that the development later triggered a domestic dispute between the couple.
Further findings suggest that the deceased was allegedly invited to the couple’s residence in Ikorodu, where he was reportedly abducted and held against his will. During this period, the suspects allegedly contacted the victim’s family and demanded ransom, which was reportedly paid.
Police sources further disclosed that the victim was later killed, after which his remains were disposed of in a river around the Adamo area of Ikorodu in an attempt to conceal the crime.
Following a coordinated investigation by homicide detectives and the Police Forensic Crime Scene Unit at the SCID, the body of the deceased was reportedly recovered weeks later from the river, despite efforts to destroy evidence. The remains have since been deposited at a morgue for autopsy as part of preparations for prosecution.
The Lagos State Commissioner of Police, CP Olohundare Jimoh Moshood, had recently strengthened forensic and investigative operations within the command, a move police sources say contributed significantly to the breakthrough in the case.
All three suspects are expected to be charged to court upon the conclusion of investigations.
Efforts to obtain official comments from the Lagos State Police Public Relations Officer were unsuccessful as she was reportedly attending an official police conference in Abuja at the time of filing this report.
